COTM - #138 - Grobschnitt and Wishbone Ash

Greetings Mooniverse.

This week begins with a series that will look back 40 years to the great albums of 1974 (and there were a lot of them).

Our first feature artist will be Wishbone Ash with their 1974 release There's The Rub. It comes with the introduction of Laurie Wisefield to the group to replace original guitarist Ted Turner. Listen for the banjo and steel guitar on this album, two new sounds he brought to the group.

The next artist is Grobschnitt from Germany. We find, in 1974, their 2nd album Ballermann. It comes two years after their eponymous debut album. Known for symphonic progressive rock to rival all of the top groups, they also ventured into Krautrock (how could they resist) and psychedelic rock. Their other most recognizable trait is the humor they infused into their music and shows. This release was a double album. The first 2 sides were their typical style, but the other 2 sides became a Space Rock classic. It was titled Solar Music. This was the first recording of this suite, but I think most folks know the live version released later.

I do hope you enjoy the show. It's airing Friday 1/3 @ 9pm e.s.t, Monday 1/6 @ 12noon e.s.t., and Wednesday @ 5am e.s.t.

I'll see you on the radio.
