Metal!
I just heard a cut by Mago de Oz (insert umlats please). Sounded a lot like Iron Maiden. I liked it a lot.
(Posters note: I hate the use of the word "metal"....prefer hard rock, but use it for familiarity) Did a little research, saw a description that said "melodic metal" - code words for "good shit". The cut was titled "La Santa Compana". My question - is all their stuff like this? Also wondering how such an overtly straightforward rocking tune got on the Moon. I know it has violin, but that's cheating ![]() Wish I was at home now...have a hankering for a little "Phantom of the Opera" (not the play) ![]() |

here's another link MAGO DE OZ was founded in Madrid during 1989 by the drummer Txus, who recruited all other members until reach the first line-up, who lasted until 1995: Txus (drums), Mohamed (violin), Carlitos (guitar), Chema (guitar), Salva (bass) and Juanma (vocals). Then, Chema, Salva and Juanma left the band, being replace by Frank, Sergio and José, and these were the only changes since then. Combining in an unique way heavy metal, celt, folk and medieval music, the band became one of the most important Spanish bands. Their sound could be defined as mix between KANSAS, SKYCLAD, IRON MAIDEN and BLACKMORE'S NIGHT. After first self-titled album, released in 1994, they released five more albums (including live "Folktergeist"). The double-CD "Finisterra", with all keyboards and flutes arrangements, is considered a masterpiece. They also recorded versions (not simply covers) to songs from artists as RAINBOW, LED ZEPPELIN, KANSAS (a breathtaking Spanish version to "Dust in the Wind"), IRON MAIDEN and BARON ROJO. If you're looking for a pure prog band, you will be a little disappointed with MAGO DE OZ, but if you are looking for something else in metal, this band is what you need! |

If you are interested in listening to this group, search under the name "De Oz", the Mago has an accent over the "a" in Mago. And that's why we couldn't find it. Good stuff.
