Cool European prog

Hello. Without a doubt Aural Moon music database is wonderful, but there are some European albums, which I'd like to suggest you as a prog fan knowing European progscene.
So:
Anekdoten-Gravity - new studio album from 2003. A fantastic piece of work IMHO.

Galahad-Following Ghosts - one of the greatest neoprogressive albums of the 90's

Karnataka-The Storm or Delicate Flame of Desire - very modern neoprog from England. Absolutely brilliant female vocalist Rachel Jones.

Pineapple Thief - Variations on a Dream - very good album from 2003. Porcupine Tree style with symphonic momentum.

Jadis-More Than Meets The Eye - the best Jadis album

Opeth-Damnation - fantastic album presenting the mellow side of Opeth. Great!!

Kayak-Merlin:Bard of the Unseen - great comeback to prog of Dutch group. Recorded with orchestra.

The Flower Kings - Retropolis - we have only one track from the one of the best TFK albums

Mostly Autumn - The Spirit of Autumn Past - I think you know this band, this is perhaps their best piece of work yet.

Pain of Salvation - The Perfect Element pt.1 - only one comment: a masterpiece

Karmakanic - Entering the Spectra - The Flower Kings Jonas Reingold's band album, also features other members of TFK. Very good.

Paatos - Timeloss - quite unknown but very interesting Norwegian band. Psychedelic, mellotrons etc.

The Mars Volta - De-loused in the Comatorium - one of the 2003 hits. Very original mix of prog and...punk (!)

Quidam - Time Beneath a Sky - very appreciated album from Polish band

Ark - Ark - very original mix of prog and hard rock, with phenomenal vocals of Jorn Lande.

These are my sugestions. Hope it will be helpful

oh wojtek....

I like your taste.

The Pineapple Thief and early Jadis...yes, yes.

Karnataka - to see the lovely Rachel Jones in action, go to www.classicrockproductions.com and to video clips. It's a song from The Delicate Flame of Desire. VERY small segment. There are a few other clips there which you all might enjoy. Not to mention "Spamdau Ballet".

Galahad and Kayak..been meaning to follow up on these two.

Thank you for your great suggestions, woj.

Feeling Gravity's Pull

I thought Gravity was on Aural Moon. It continues a more mellower Anekdoten than their first two, and really is an excellent record. I am very partial to From Within, it's just got a cool sound. My only beef is that I wish the bass player would sing more, he's got a great voice.

I also prefer Anekdoten's style from the last two albums most and also I wish Jan Erik sang more. Anekdoten's vocals problems are very funny. When the group released Vemod it was Jan Erik's vocal which was very low. Now after 10 years, Jan made a big progress and then he was replaced in most songs by Nicklas, who .... hmmm... needs practice to be a good singer.

Mossy - thank you. I will add that I tried to be objective, it is not only my taste :) Unfortunately I'm not huge Jadis fan :))) (but I love "Sleepwalk") but anyhow we have many groups we both like.
I you want to try Galahad and Kayak let me give you advice. Kayak is like Renaissance, there changed their music into pop and were playing it for a long time so be careful :)
Galahad's Following Ghosts is a classic. It has great melodies and many stylistical expermients like adding to the song long trance instrumental part (I'm not trance fan, but the effect is really wonderful). I'm not a fan of keyb-synth neoprog like but it is really great stuff.

Definitely agree with you on Ark, Woj...
"Ark" and "Burn the Sun" are both some fine examples of what I've dubbed "Green Theater". (a combination of a Dream Theater-like melodic rock, mixed with interstellar sounds and then lovingly wrapped in environmentally-friendly themes).

The site is currently down, but last I knew of, you could check out some clips at:

Jim

I just got a memo from Jim. He said, yeah, all cool, but start a new thread for each one, with the band name as the name of the thread. That'll make it easier for him to keep up with. Seriously, he sent me that memo to tell ya'll that. Really. Honestly. He did. I swear. I'd show it to you but I lost it. Bye.
