Show 9 - No Speak

This week I am serving four CD's for your fine pallates. Each CD has no vocals, so enjoy your meal quietly....

A) Prism - Cycles of Life (2003)

1) Cycles of Life
2) Prime Directive
3) Network
4) Reunion
5) ?????
6) Reminiscences
7) Gaia
8) Coral Islands
9) Land of Happiness? Another Take Off

Akira Wado - Guitars
Jiro Okada - Bass & Keys
Mansaku Kimura - Drums, percussion

Didn't know a thing about these guys until a friend sent me this CD. Apparently they've been around a long time, and have recently resumed recording. Fusion city, baby...this CD is blistering!

B) Finch - Galleons of Passion (1977)

1) Unspoken Is The Word
2) Remembering The Future
3) As On
4) With Love As The Motive
a) Impulse
b) Reaching
c) Sinful Delight?
5) Reconciling

Joop van Nimwegen - Guitars
Hans Bosboom - Drums
Peter Vink - Bass
Ad Wammes - Keys & Flute

More basic than their other two CD's, this one's not on the Moon. "Glory of the Inner Force" is one of my favorite CD's, and Sean recently played a few Finch cuts. Seemed like a good time to pull this one out.

C) Pierre Moerlen's Gong - Leave It Open (1981)

1) Leave It Open
2) How Much Better Has It Become
3) I Woke Up This Morning, Felt Like Playing Guitar
4) It's About Time
5) Stok Stok Stok Sto-Gak
6) Adrien

Pierre, Bon Lozaga, Hansford Rowe, the usual suspects......

Love Pierre Moerlen's Gong. This and "Time Is The Key" were missing from my collection. Another one sent to me. More subtle than the others but no less commanding.

D) Brand X - The X-Files (most of Disc 1)

1) The X-Files Theme (Live 1993 @ The Strand)
2) Nuclear Burn/Cambodia (Live 1993 @ The Cabaret)
3) Healing Dream ("X-Communication" outtake)
4) Thalidomide Squid (Live 1994 @ The Bottom Line)
5) Born Pretty In A Disco (Live 1997 in Japan)
6) Noddy Goes To Sweden (Live 1976 @ Dudley University)
7) Kugelblitz (1976 recording)

John Goodsall - Guitars on all
Percy Jones - Bass on all
Frank Katz - Drums on 1,2,4
Pierre Morelen - Drums on 5
Robin Lumley - Keys on 6,7
Phil Collins - Drums on 7
Mike Clarke - Drums on 6
Kris Sjobring - Keys on 5

Notes: Only Midi guitar on (1), no keyboards....Track 5 is "Disco Suicide" from Moroccan Roll...track 2 has no overdubs.

I was stopping by a record store to pick up cases for CD's (on my way to the watch the football game ) and felt I had to purchase something (the cases were free). I saw this and almost damn near missed kickoff. What a find! It's a compilation put out by Goodsall and Jones out of consternation of the record company's unautorized compilations. I haven't listened to disc 2 yet...it has the side bands like Fire Merchants, Wilding/Bonus, etc.

A fun CD...there are two songs skipped because of time...one is a live "Don't Make Waves"...but there's singing so it wouldn't fit anyway......

Enjoy, and no tips, please!
