Derek Shulman Joins Us, A Tribute To Women, Pierre Moerlen
http://gagliarchives.com
Join the GAGLIARCHIVES, Saturday Night at 10pm Eastern Time, for program 899, as we feature a salute to the women in music from all sides of the progressive rock genre. We'll spotlight new music from the stunning vocalist Emily Bezar and her Angels' Abacus CD, progressive metal queen Lana Lane and her powerful new disc titled Lady Macbeth, #1 disc of our 2004 top 100 in White Willow and the Storm Season disc, White Willow alumnus Tirill Mohn and her mysteriously wonderful album A Dance With The Shadows. We'll feature the new reissues from Progquebec and the outstanding French Canadian band Contraction, featuring the lovely Christiane Robichard, and the self titled debut from 1972, and the powerful second album from 1975, Your Money Or Your Life, and the recent archive of Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong titled Tree In Fish. We'll also feature music from the beautiful Toyah Wilcox and her 2003 release Ophelia's Shadow. Progressive Metal icons Within Temptation and the powerful 2001 release Mother Earth featuring Sharon Den Adel on vocals. British project Narnia and the 1974 album Aslan Is Not A Tame Lion featuring Pauline Filby, classic Spanish release from 1975 from Canarios and the Ciclos album featuring the operatic vocals of Rudmini Sukmawati. Along with National Health and the hair raising Amanda Parsons on vocals, Hannah Stobart of The Wishing Tree and the Steve Rothery produced Carnival Of Souls from 1996, and British projects Magenta and the Seven album, and Mostly Autumn and The Spirit Of Autumn Past. And what mother's day spotlight would be complete with Annie Haslam? Men will unfortunately tarnish this program, with an exclusive interview with Gentle Giant frontman Derek Shulman as he joins us to discuss the new and forthcoming Gentle Giant remasters. Join us for this introspective interview as Derek reflects on his time with Gentle Giant, his record company days, and what he is up to now. Sadly, we will pay tribute to a personal favorite, talented artist, percussionist, and drummer, Pierre Moerlen. Pierre sadly left us Monday, and we showcase his time in Gong. We will also track our #1 disc for the second week in Porcupine Tree's Deadwing. nice job
I'll have to stay up for this one....my show this week is three hours of Gentle Giant (it's a Gentle Giant week!), and I'll be very interested to listen to the interview (pun intended). I'm aware of most of his work in the industry, and will be listening intently.
Pierre Moerlen's Gong was one of my favorite acts, and being in the Northeast also, have had the pleasure of seeing Bon Lozaga and Hansford Rowe perform at small shows and record shops, carrying on the great music they created with him. Pierre did so many other things, and was in my view one of the greatest musicians I have ever heard. The Mothers Day theme is very nice. I'm glad you're spotlighting females and not Frank Zappa and the Mothers ![]() And Deadwing is most excellent. |
