Steve Wilson and / or influence recommendatios?

Since "Moon" has introduced me to Porcupine Tree, I have become obsessed with them. I have Deadwings, Absentia, Lightbulb Sun, Sky Moves Sideways, Lazaruth EP, Signify and Voyage 34 (Didn't like V34 much). I have also purchased Kino and Blackfield, which I enjoy very much. Does anyone have any recommendations for any other Steve Wilson projects, other PT Cd's or anything similar to these? Thanks, Rob

You will like "Damnation" by Opeth. The others by Opeth, you most likely will not.

He is also involved in two other projects.

No-Man is a colaboration with another musician and will appeal to your feminine side. I have 2 CD's and both are a little soft for me.

The other project is an ambient music exploration under the name Bass something-or-other. Haven't heard any of it but you may want to check it our.

No Man is a Steve Wilson side project. nosound is an Italian artist clearly influenced by P-Tree. I think Appleseed Cast has a similar vibe to earlier P-Tree in spots.

edit: Bass Communion is the other project Z refers to...

Well Yorks, I think you would like RIVERSIDE- Out of Myself, strong guitar sound with that prog flair, they have a new one as well but I haven't stopped playing this one yet

I agree with sharc. Out of Myself is great and the few tracks that I heard from Second Life Syndrome show a lot of promise. You won't be disapponted.

Hang a stocking up, z. Wife might take pity on you.

Yorks, I like Porcupine Tree. We have all their albums. I also like Pineapple Thief. You might not, but it's worth a listen as there are some similar musical threads in there. Note Pineapple Thief songs on the moon avail for RQ.

Also, if I might suggest - RQ from "Variations on a Dream" first. I think it's their strongest album.

Thumbs up Re: Steve Wilson and / or influence recommendatios?

OK, I've had it.........or I'm going to get it..........sheeeeeeeesh!!! I have now purchased 19 CD's since I've come to Aural Moon. If my wife knew that.........well, I'd point out, to her, all of the QVC lady lotion stuff........anyway........Pineapple Theif sounds right up my alley. I listened, I liked. I have now filled in my PT collection with Up the Downstair, No-Man: Returning Jesus, 2 Oceanside CD's, 2 Riverside CD's, 2 Transatlantic CD's, Flower Knigs: Unfold the Future, Onesidezero, Chevelle, Blackfield, Kino and a few more. This place is soothing my mind and soul and breaking my bank. BUT HEY!!! I LOVE IT!!! I think it was "sharcnorris" that started me on PT, well I'm hooked and lovin' it. THANKS MOON and all of your advice and insight. I am off to order Pineapple Theif: Variations and Ten Stories Down.

Smile Re: Steve Wilson and / or influence recommendatios?

I blew it..............I slipped and forgot to change my "Ship to" address. I walked in the door yesterday and wife said............uh?!??!........Your CD's came today................all I could say was.........oh?!?!? good!!!............then I stuttered through the QVC thing.........and I didn't get in trouble.......Lordy, if she knew how many were shipped to work. Hey?? Is this considered lying? This is kind of a woman poll (Edited by Rob 'cause of the "pole" thingee).............If a man doesn't say anything at all, is that lying? My wife says it is...........I call it selective memory........or I was going to tell you at the right moment. You know, like when the guilt gets to you so much, you blurt it out..........OH!!! By the way.........my new PT similar favorite is OCEANSIZE: Everyone Into Position..........WHEW!!!

[quote=yorksrvc] This is kind of a woman pole............./QUOTE]

Using the spelling of "poll" as "pole" takes on a completely different meaning!

Hey Yorks, Hey you got in less trouble than if you hadn't got the shipping address right on those DVD's from Wicked.

Re: Steve Wilson and / or influence recommendatios?

I saw Oceansize live, they played the 1st part before Porcupine Tree last week, on Wednesday, November 30th. Were great, I bought their albums ... Well, I know that Steven Wilson recorded a vinyl called Electronic Music ... a very rare one ... they were selling it at the gig. You probably will have difficulties to find it but try to get it, it's worth it

Re: Steve Wilson and / or influence recommendatios?

Elric......I've now had theopportunity to listen to Oceansize numerous times and they are quickly becoming # 1's. OK, I've got a few # 1's. I now have another problem. I was just introduced to RIVERSIDE by recommendation and I purchased "Out of Myself" and "Second Life Syndrome".........they arrived Friday..at my house again......humph!!!..........I have to be more careful with my shipping address. Anyway, I have been blown away.....period!!! Whew!! What a mix of PT sounds, electronics, guitar, drummer, bass player, vocalist.........uh? What else is there!??!?! THEY ARE GREAT!!! RIVERSIDE is also becoming a # 1. Looks like Threshold drops to # 2 and PT, Oceansize, and Riverside are all # 1's.............WHEW!!!
