Show 115 - French, French Canadian....and not Canadian!
Stop in for the next show, where we'll hear three entire CD's from three great artists.
Nil - Quarante Jours Sur Le Sinai 65:01 (2002) Appears to be a 2006 re-release, this French band has music on the Moon, including this CD. However, although there are two "acts", there are 29 individual tracks. I have uploaded them as they appear on the disc. It's one continuous splendid piece of music, reminiscent at times of Pierre Moerlen's gong, a bit lighter, with some female vocal and orchestral parts. I like the "prepared guitar"...sure is tasty! Azam Ali - Elysium For the Brave 52:18 (2006) A chance listen to the radio alerted me to this amazing and beautiful artist. I was listening to the weekly heavy fusion show on the radio (yes there are some good stations at times) and after a night of bowling still had the same station on. This song came on that was just totally different. A hypnotic Gabriel sound of sorts. I wrote down the artist and posted it here. Jim has bought and put it on the Moon, and we'll get a full play on the show. Azam Ali has some other stuff out, both with and without a band, but it's a bit different than this one. On her site is an interview, in which she answered a question about her native Iran. It's very eye-opening - check it out sometime, I even copied it. Endless Reverie Spring Arrives In Other Worlds Abode Forty-One Ways The Tryst From Heaven to Dust I Am A Stranger In This World In This Divide Karcius - Kaleidoscope 56:54 (2006) I should have voted this in the top 5 of 2006. Their second release continues the hard fusion vibe created by their debut "Sphere", which I played last year. There's more acoustic piano on this, and the music is a fresh take on instrumental fusion. This French-Canadian band played the NY Prog in the Park last year, and I personally feel they would crush at Nearfest. I've yet to see these guys - it's excellent to see such new great musicianship and talent continue. Hypothese A Maintenant Destination Tunnel Hypothese B A-0-14 Epilogue Hypothese C Enjoy! |

What I will do in the future, Ted, is to put the air dates when I post. In general, I post the Wednesday before the show, but there should be no reason to have you all guess. Thanks for the tip and the comments! ![]() |
