Thumbs up Re: Help the young boy to improve jeje

Re: Help the young boy to improve jeje

Hello,

If you go to the "general" section of the forums, you will see a thread called "Top Five Prog Albums". That would be a good place to start.

what are your preferences? If you state those I (and I'm sure others) can get you a place to start....then it just snowballs from there!

Re: Help the young boy to improve jeje

pues de hecho hay much grupos. intenta Versus X, High Wheel, Soft Machine, NIL, Anekdoten, Anglagard, Nucleus, Zheul grupos como Can (beware lol), Faust, o Magma, pero estan grupos muy raros - Riverside, SBB, Sigur Ros, Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Gong, Strawbs, Egg, John Greaves, Henry Cow, Isildur's bane, Amon Düül II, Archive, Thee Silver Mount Zion, Sotos. Pero eso es una pequeñitita lista. Yo escucho Aural Moon y noto los grupos que me interesan.

Re: Help the young boy to improve jeje

Seems like it's very difficult to find people who like progressive rock no matter what country you're in.

I know that it is in jest, but it is an unfair comment Keithie. Quite frankly I find my musical taste parallels spaz's quite closely. Also as a younger member in our family, his input is especially valuable since it comes from a young guy who also appreciates and likes the older prog. An example of why I appreciate spaz's input: his recomendation of The Appleseed Cast helped bridge the musical gap between me and my son (16 years old) and now all he listens to is prog. Any help that I can get to help me stay in touch with me teenage son is greatly appreciated. All hail the mighty Spaz!!!

Re: Help the young boy to improve jeje

I don't know if I'd start the lad out on GYBE.

In fact, i disagree w/ that being a good starting list.
It was more of a "personal preferences" of relatively obscure
prog bands than "progressive rock 101".

IMO-Stick to the basics- Yes, KC, Tull, Gabriel/Genesis, Floyd, Rush.
These are the bands that started a great percentage of us.

After a good grounding, move into Gentle Giant, Porcupine Tree,
early Spock's Beard. At 17 ( possessing a surplus of testoterone
and adrenalin that most of us here lack), you'll probably like Dream Theater.
Also, give a listen to the Mexican prog band "Cast".
Thase had a pretty good CD a couple of years ago, "Nimbus".

Unlike Magma, ect., Most of these can also be found on YouTube.com,
a better way of checking them out w/o shelling out el grande pesos.

BTW- Are you familiar w/ the Mexican band "Mana"?
I know/jammed w/ their little brother Abraham.
Great drummer. He left the band, thinking he was better than
his brothers, 6 months before they were signed to Columbia Records

P e a c e and welcome to the moon,

Kirk/Zenpool
