BTW, keith, the Robin 2 was Frankie Dunnery's regular venue before he started doing the house concert circuit. Good vibes there!

Re: A UK Prog Festival!!!!!!!
Hey this looks cool. I am new to the forum but was kindly pointed to the direction of this thread - and who knows, I'd love to be able to get to this event if I can make it.
I must do a little listening to the bands who are already earmarked to play... any pointers anyone so I can have a listen...? |

Re: A UK Prog Festival!!!!!!!
For starters try Pendragon's "Guardian of my soul" or "Paintbox". As for The Flower Kings, Rogor Mortis is our resident TFK expert but my own favourite is "Stardust we are". Strangefish are a band where you could pick anything from Aural moon's playlist and you would enjoy it. A great band and one of the reasons I'm going to the festival.
Hope that helps you MusicMan. See you in Bilston. |

Looks really cool.. but I will already be back in the US. I will be going to the UK for a mini-tour of my own at the beginning of September.. Will be playing with Tim Blake, Dream Machine and others.. Wish the timing was better for me to be able to go to the festival while I am over there!! GRRRRR!!!

I'm not sure about being able to make any of the dates on your tour because of work commitments.....I will try and sort something out. However, Nik Turner's Space Ritual band are playing in London (Portobello Road) on Friday 18th August and I will definitely be there. Did you know about that gig? I'll post this in your thread as well in case you don't get to see this one. |

Re: A UK Prog Festival!!!!!!!
Thanks KeithieW - great info, I will check it out.
Tell you what guys and gals, after listening to, then purchasing Frosts - Milliontown album on the weekend, I gotta say this is the most superb modern prog rock stuff I have ever heard. I travel on the train a lot, and being a musical sound geek I tend to analyse all the sounds on a track - or in a section of a track - if I like it. For those who have this album - please have a listen to the absolutely brilliant lead synth keys playing on the track Hyperventilate just after the guitar solo at 5:53. The piece goes into a totally wild 5/8 with what I'd say is some of the best lead keyoard playing I have ever heard. Awesome stuff... I am gobsmacked at this stuff as you can tell... ![]() |

Re: A UK Prog Festival!!!!!!!
MM,
Not sure what you like etc... Strangefish is a stew of Genesis, Echolyn, IQ, Gentle Giant, thrown together in accesible prog music. I like it because it rocks and they use sounds from great bands without being derivative. The first CD has longer pieces (and more enjoyable) and the second is thematically linked and repeats a bit but is also stellar. If you are not familiar with the Flower Kings you will love them. I like them all, bear in mind they are a bit different now and jazzier. And there's too much to explain lol... |

Re: A UK Prog Festival!!!!!!!
There's an outside chance I'll show up. BUT, having seen Flamborough Head at Baja Prog, I strongly recommend not missing them. Not the most original sound (hints of Renaissance), but solid and enjoyable.

Here's a few pics. I'll write a proper review with tales of drunkeness, Rick almost getting killed by a drunken idiot in a silly hat and much more.

Re: A UK Prog Festival!!!!!!!
For some reason, I told them I was working tomorrow, we don't have enough food, laundry needs attention, and I have many things to catch up on.
Many tales of band meetings, England transportation (I had some challenges today), fun times, and of course a full review of the bands. I think you'll find some of my comments surprising. And of course a thank you to Keith, Rogor, and vax for making me comfortable in a place out of my element. Living out of a suitcase with two men can be interesting. Much more later. My body days it's almost 1AM but can't rest now. Rick |

I was concerned for your return though. I lent Thor my mobile back in January when we were there for Keith b'day party. It came in handy for his trek down to Iain and Laxmi's. We were so pressed for time all this past weekend thought that we never had time to renew the SIM card for it. I wanted to leave you with it as I know how UK transportation can be. Anyway, happy you made it home. You need to go over for some other gigs and check out London. It's lots of fun learning the Undergound.

![]() ![]() Well from my part it was an odd weekend. Odd as I felt my knee going sore on the way over that got worse and finally tinkling red and hot, sore with little sleep. So the other guys used me as a handicapped to get in first ! It turned out when I got back to be a skin infection so I'm now on strong penicillin. With Keithie's bad tum, my gammy leg and Vax's collection of ailments we were a fine collection of "old" men. If Rick had anything wrong with him we don't know what it is, except I'm sure Sigmund Freud would find him an excellent specimen to psyhcoanalyse. It was dispite the aches and pains a great weekend, I expect to repeat next year as well as come over to the USA for Rosfest. ![]()
