John Wetton with the "School of Rock All Stars"
JV and I went to the John Wetton show last night in Foxboro MA.
The venue was really nice. Patriot Place is a brand new shopping and entertainment complex that was built at Gillette Stadium; home of the New England Patriots. The club has a posted capacity of 1050. Many events are 'standing room only' They told Julie that they were only selling 500 seats. There was ~400 or 450 people there. Tables were set up and the venue has a full dinner menu, full bar and waitress service. The setup of the space means there is not a bad seat in the house. JV got a cosmo. I got a Martini. ![]() The kids came on first and played the first song without JW. John came on for the second song. He played most songs... but sat out a few. Here is the set list: 21st Century Schizoid Man Red Lament Days like these Easy Money Tom Sawyer - Rush Mother Goose - Jethro Tull In the Dead of Night Only Time Will Tell Exiles Don’t Cry One More Red Nightmare Fallen Angel 3 of a Perfect Pair Tempus Fugit - Yes Rendez-vous 6:02 Nightwatch Book of Saturday Fracture Excerpt... Larks Tongues in Aspic Heat of the Moment John did not play the Rush, Yes or Tull. The show was very good. John played and sang OK... he is not a "Frontman' so he doesn't have that "je ne sais quoi" that draws you in like Jon Anderson or Ian Anderson would/does. (Heh, maybe a name change to Anderson would help. ![]() The kids were very good... and so young. The kids switched out on every song. There were a total of 14 kids. Many of the played multiple instruments; guitar, bass & sax. Two minor complaints: 1) when the 'kids' were singing they were not loud enough. 2) on the 'lead guitar' side of the stage, every time a kid would have a solo... they would slide over to the amp, just before and turn up.... but no one ever turned down... so the lead guitar got louder and louder and louder all night. We met some nice people at the show. Both, in line and at the table. Looking forward to going back to the venue for Keith Emerson in the Spring. Sounds like a great night out PG.
Just one question.........did JV get any pre-pubescent rock stars to sign her T-shirt? But maybe that's only for hairy Swedes............ ![]() |
