cotm - Album/Artist Feature #7 - Caravan
Welcome fans to the 7th feature show. This week, in honor of all the RosFest bound Mooniversians that are Caravaning to Gettysburg, PA this week, I would like to feature two albums by Caravan: Caravan & New Symphonia and In The Land of Grey and Pink.
In the beginning..... in a land not really so far away, there was a village named Canturbury. It just so happened that two very distinct groups emerged from that area to form one style of progressive rock: Soft Machine and Caravan. This style was marked by a stronger sense of the mixture of Jazz with Rock. Bet you can't guess what it was called. Several other bands were formed from this core of players and all followed the Canterbury Style. Today we will focus our attention on Caravan. They were a very prolific group, releasing a dozen studio albums, 8 of which were between 1968 - 1976. Today's 1st album is a Live album recorded in 1973 and release the next year. For this concert, Caravan combined with New Symphonia - so a new and more classical side was revealed. The 2nd album for today is their 1971 (and perhaps best album) In The Land of Grey and Pink. On these two albums are perhaps their finest epics; For Richard and Nine Feet Under. For time constraints I had to leave off the bonus tracks, Check them out sometime. Enjoy the feature Artist - and pleasant journey to the RosFest Caravan. Dale
