COTM - Show #89 - Chick Corea - Abbreviated

Hello moon fiends.

Today's feature artist was at the heart of the explosion that was the center point of the Jazz Fusion wave. This came from the recording sessions of Bitches Brew at the 30th Street Studios under the direction of Miles Davis. That session was packed with the best young talent from the jazz scene. Musicians like Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Joe Zuiwal, Billy Cobham, Dave Holland and Chick Corea, just to name a few. Each of them would go on and spread the word (or notes) of fusion.

Chick Corea is our featured artist. He had left Miles Davis and formed an avant jazz group, but in 1971 he teamed up with Stanley Clarke to form Return To Forever. They became one of the most popular fusion groups of the time, along with groups like Weather Report, Passport, Mahavishnu Orchestra and Jean-luc Ponty. At the height of RTF's wave, Chick Corea released two solo albums, both in 1976. The Leprechaun and then later in the year My Spanish Heart.

I can only play one album side of My Spanish Heart due to the rebroadcast of our Top-20 Moon-O Poll, which will start at appoximately 1pm e.s.t. I will play Side 3, which includes the humorous El Bozo suite. But I will be playing the entirety of The Leprechaun, which is one of my all-time favorite albums. I'm sure you'll be enchanted with the vocal work of Gayle Moran (who later marries Chick).

I'll see you in the Corner.
