additions

Having only recently looked at the playlist, here are some additions I'd like to see and why. I fully understand any constraints that may exist.

Rush - it appears that the first record, Presto, Counterparts, and Test For Echo are missing. Looking at it from a prog perspective (and not a die-hard Rush fan), not having the first and Presto is OK. I think though, having Vapor Trails, Roll The Bones, and HYF w/o Counterparts and TFE is inconsistent.

I noticed the 2nd and 3rd Crack The Sky records The debut, if available (a big if) would be great.

FM's Surveillance would be a nice addition.

I have already asked for (and are in differing stages of making it on AM) Echolyn "As The World", Manfred Mann's "Nightingales and Bombers", Discipline, and Chaos Code. In addition, the first Echolyn CD is excellent. Of course, it my also be out of print.

Wilding & Bonus' "Pleasure Signals" would be a great thing on AM. All-stars on every cut, it's a whole other level of prog/fusion. Also, the cover art is, shall I say, very magnetic.

Ronnie Montrose put out "Open Fire" in the 70's, a very prog effort by a fine guitarist.

Other artists that exist on AM in some form that I feel could be represented more are Ozric Tentacles, Frank Gambale, JL Ponty, and Steve Vai ("The Ultra Zone" being an obvious choice).

I know this is a lot in one post, but I'm doing a brain dump. Having the above selections, along with the excellent job that you guys do keeping up with current releases, really would enhance AM.

I think Presto is just as worthy of being here as any of Rush's later material. Progressiveness abounds; it's just done more subtly and is partially disguised by the pop-rock overtones.

Stealing Jim's thunder

Do Jim a favor, and, when making a suggestion, start a new thread with the artist's name as the topic - that makes it much easier for him to keep track of the requests.

Rush - I hate Counterparts. I own well over 1,500 CDs, and I traded in Counterparts at the local used CD store. Presto - I'll have to give another listen to - I own it and TFE. TFE I like better, so someof that will likely be added.
First Crack The Sky - if I ever find it. FM Surveillance - if I find it cheap enough. I had it on cassette a long time ago, and I was lukewarm on it. I think Black Noise is one of the best prog albums of all time, but anything else from FM only mildly interests me.
As The World, Nightingales + Bombers, Discipline and Chaos Code should all be here shortly. Montrose Open Fire - I think I agree (Haven't heard it in years), and I think my brother owns it - stay tuned.
Much more (4 CDs worth) of Ozrics coming soon. Gambale and Ponty - yes, as I get more. Same with Vai.

and thanks, Bob, for the reminder of one band per thread!

I think I agree with all of your assessments, Jim.

Second that opinion on Black Noise - the thing about Surveillance is that three or four of the songs are better than BN (Seventh Heaven, for instance is the best song they ever did), but the rest don't compare. Reminds me of a BOC record.

As time passes, I'll see what happens with Gambale, Vai, Ozrics, and do a separate thread if needed (see below). It's good to see you're on top of it. Excellent to see that the other requests are in the works.

The Montrose is a lost gem.

The CTS is tough to get. I had to get it with Animal Notes on the same CD.

Didn't see a reply on the Wilding & Bonus. It was only one record, and was a hybrid of artists. Note - this is why I didn't want to start a thread for each item I mentioned, I just really wanted an update on the requests. I'm aware of the "one band per thread rule". If I see an artist underrepresented in the future, yeah one per is fine. But again, it was just an update request.

Rush is very interesting in that you will get so many differing options. I've seen some outrageous statements about different Rush output, so maybe it's time to resurrect the debate (did we do a thread once)? There's so much Rush on AM, so having one of my favorites excluded doesn't bother me.

Thanks, Jim for the quick reply - all my questions were answered. And good to hear from Bob again!

I knew I'd miss one. I'm not familiar with the album, so I'll have to investigate. I remember the mention of the cover on that thread, so there's some intrigue there as well...

W+B

Given the amount of requests I did, I'm surprised more wasn't missed - I'll try to be more concise next time (not one of my strong points).

Danny Wilding on flute and Pete Bonus on guitar teamed up with Goodsall, Giblin, Collins, Bayete, Phil Chen, Shrieve, Lumley, G. Sheehan, etc. I think they're friends of the Brand X guys. The record's from 1978 (my copy says out of print), but I got a CD released in 1993 on Ozone records. Hope that helps.

I'll leave the description of the cover art a bit longer, to heighten the interest!

Montrose

Montrose: I know diddly about this band other than Ross Valory left it to start Journey.

Open Fire

is a pure solo effort - later 70's after his stuff with Hagar. Edgar Winter's on a few cuts, who Montrose played with on Frankenstein and Free Ride.
