I have the green album on vinyl, so it'll make it on the station after I get set up to rip MP3s from vinyl (coming soon), or if I find it on CD.

I thought we had Black Light Syndrome on the station

Max Webster - I've heard of him, but never heard his music. Can you point me to some sound samples?

Kim Mitchell was the vocalist/guitarist of Max Webster. They were a Canadian band that opened up on a few tours with Rush.

I have the Universal Juveniles album and the High Class in Borrowed Shoes cassette.

I have not found any of their songs on the net.

I might be able to make some MP3s of the cassette. The later stuff was more rock than progressive, but the earlier stuff was progressive.

Max Webster

I also have a few Max Webster LP's. I agree that the only stuff that would be considered prog is from their earlier work. Mutiny Up My Sleeve ia also a good album.

Don't judge Max Webster by Kim Mitchell. Max Webster is like Rush meets Frank Zappa whereas Kim Mitchel is like Bon Jovi on a tight budget.

A song that is worth a listen is In Context of the Moon which I've found on Kazaa.

Jim, if you have a stand alone unit for a cd burner, you can burn the vinyl to cd and then to mp3, if your turntable has analog outs. But if you don't have a burner, or only one on the computer, I'm lost.

If you have a turntable and a computer, all you need is an audio editing program to record on your soundcard's line-in. Then edit the songs, remove silence, pops, etc, and save the file as an mp3.

I didn't know that. I just bought a new Dell laptop last night on line. But I'm thinking of cancelling the order, becaseu for about the same price I can get a desktop about five times as powerful and load up some stuff on it...

If the laptop has a line-in, it'll probably work fine for doing that, if you want to use it for that.

Max and BLS

I own BLS, don't know why - I liked it at first, but it bored me upon replay. Just me....

Knew Max Webster would bring Zvinki out the hole. Jim, you nevr heard the collaborative song with Rush, "Battlescar"?

Out of the hole

OK, you got me Rick. Although I like Battlescar, unfortunately it was the begining of the end of Max Webster. If you haven't heard it, it is worth a listen. Very over the top.

Glad to hear that you are giving them a chance Jim. I hope that you enjoy it.

just a point of reference

Although I do joke around, I never tease about musical tastes.

I was trying to orient Jim, 'cause I'm surprised he'd never heard of Max.

Max Webster? On Aural Moon? I don't think I see it. I'm listening to "Mutiny Up My Sleeve" right now. It's got some progressive tendencies, and I'll gladly admit I like it - no complaints that I bought it - but I don't see it as an add. I'm thinking I'd compare it to Asia or Deep Purple; not that it sounds like them, but in the same way it skirts progressive without being truly progressive. Maybe Styx-ish in the same way. Comments?

(I'm halfway through the CD right now, so I reserve the right to change my opinion.)

OK, so I'm thinking "Distressed" is a solid add. I'm going to listen to the whole CD again, and Max Webster fans, chime in with why you think it (Mutiny Up My Sleeve) is progressive.

(If you care about this thread, check the previous page. I'm posting "live" as I listen to this disc, and this is post 2)

I hate these 50-50's. I'd rather I think "I'm adding it" or "I'm not adding it" on first listen. These "tweeners," as I think Rick has called them, are making me pull my hair out. I really care about making the RIGHT decision....

Yes

wholeheartedly agree. If it's not prog right on the first listen, don't rush to add it. Throw it down the list.
