I never thought Hackett would do it, let alone Gabriel.
Can't wait. |

I'm incredibly indifferent. Whatever they want to do is fine with me. As long as everyone else still puts out misic.

Still don't really but if it happens I will want to be there. I just hope they don't do "A Cream" and rip us all off with OUTRAGEOUS ticket prices (assuming they play live of course). |

maybe maybe not
Yes, k. Not "a cream", definitely not a cream.
Michael's theory on this is that they'll record the album they should have recorded after Lamb, which he reckons Gabriel has already written, and will tour with that, throwing in all the oldies pre-Gabriel's departure. The Musical Box was/is to keep everybody interested (that's why they were so heartily endorsed by Genesis members), and the TMB tours were set up to coincide with members of Genesis finishing their own individual projects, before being ready for the big reunion CD and tour to come. This is M's theory. Sounds good for hypothesis. But! Who knows! He might be right.... ![]() |

Not a big Genesis fan, but I think Michael's theory is wrong.
If I were to guess, if these five got together, it wouldn't sound like old Genesis at all. Think of the proggy side of 80s Genesis, the esoteric side Peter Gabriel's solo stuff, and the latest Hackett stuff - put in a blender and hit frappe. You Collins will just sit behind the kit? No way. Phil and Peter will split the vocal duties on the hypothetical album, and the hypothetical tour will include PG-Genesis and PC-Genesis tunes. Imagine "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" with the bridge expanded into a longer jam featuring flute stuff by Gabe. Picture "Games Without Frontiers" performed by the whole Genesis band. Think of a medley of Gabe, Collins, and Hackett solo work mixed together. But if I had to guess, the album these five would make would sound NOTHING like old Genesis. It'd be good, but totally different. Again, this is from a person whose opinion of Genesis is best summarized in one syllable: "meh" ![]()

Who knows?
I guess what I mean sharc, is that there are plenty of other bands to keep my interest. I know I'm not interested in a reunion where they just try to sound like they did. Genesis is of course a special band to me and many others.
It's a well-known fact that Hackett did not really fit in the main songwriting duties in Genesis. He made the right choice by leaving, and both camps put out great records. I still like the post-Hackett Genesis records. The problem is, Mike Rutherford is not as strong on lead as you need, and Banks and Rutherford need another writer to push them. It's good but lacks the fire. Calling All Stations is on Bands and Rutherford. Weak songwriting. So my thought is just let them do what thay want, and who cares what it sounds like? If it sounds good, I know I'm fine with that. Nothing else matters to me...let them make money etc. Let's just see what it sounds like. I like Mossy's theory, it's logical. |

When Genesis is Creative all else pales. There is NO band today that releases new CD's that I Salivate to hear like I did for a Decade with Genesis. Glass Hammer, Is my Fav "NEW" band . I still have I SECRET unopened as I'm working on a recent , for me, LEX REX. This Just would"nt happen with Genny.
These guys work MUSICALLY together like no other. Having seen PG's LAMB in a small theater, I have no doubt they fit together As for Hackett, I agree with Vax that the Wind&W tour was a tour de force! Hacketts sound on that show showcased the Tone that is Genesis......he fits quite nicely with his Mates thank you. All will be writing this time around. His CD's TokYO TAPES and WATCHER are Prog Masterpieces proving his reverance to his former Mates work. Genny fans know of course that Rutherford did'nt even attempt Hacketts parts. In new material he can play bass more like his hero Entwhisle not the one note thumps ala Abacab. PG has developed a sound and always thoughtfull lyrics but the Music Writing has been poor as of late. Banks fills this goal. Seven, his classical writings still gets rotation around here. Add Phil for the ladies and this is a powerfull opportunity for Magic. Is this for Money or for Art? time will tell...the music will tell. With a Hackett lead, Phils ratt-a-tatt-tatt, Mikes Pipe organ Bass pedals, and Banks counter play, I don't care who sings With this I repeat my old Mantra.....there is a reason that The Giants of the Seventies sold Millions of CD's and the Prog bands of today don't. Todays bands have cult followings, Genesis has World followings. The Tones And combinations of Musical thought, stir a inner harmony and beat that reaches deeper than most bands. Fifthof Firth, or Carpet Crawlers. One for the Vine, even Home by the Sea evoke emotion and thrill in me few New Discs do. And they still do after 30 years. Frankly I'm suprised at Spaz & Ricks Indifferance, To each thier Own There are many phases to the Moon! I guess this ends my Dream band fantasy...(for us dinosaus only) Oldfield, Wakeman, Lake & Collins

Please don't confuse indifference about a reunion with not being into the band. Genesis is in my top 10 of favorite groups.
When it happens, we'll see what it brings. I am in no way denying their greatness nor their impact on me. |

Generally the idea is to do a reunion when money gets short.
That I think is not the case. And I don't think PG is that interested from what I've been reading around. He'd actually asked one Genesis video not to be included in the recent video release. I don't think Collins as yet is interested either but the other three are. But it might happen but I'm not counting on it.
