Tally Ho!!!

MOONIES,

It has been a while. I am going to try and get a streak of new shows going, on British prog, jazz, proto-prog, psych, disco, klezmer, rap, and death metal. Or a subset of the above. Anyway, tune in tonight and every Thursday for a while for British prog.

Regards,
Sean

Did Great Britain have a prog scene?

I understand it may be hard to believe .

In a way countries like this (and Italy) pose their own problems. With Romania it's easy, there's only one show worth of stuff to play. With England you could go six months (well I'm sure I'd be kicked off the air before that). So how do you break things down coherently?

Anyway that all seemed too hard so I'll just go on random .

I like the play on the ELP and the GG titles...

The Kingdom Come confused me...I thought for a sec it was the Zeppelin clone metal band. And I have an CD by Jonesy, but it's a bass player from Fast Eddie (nice CD by the way).

After realizing there's a popular band called "Finch" out now, I guess I'll just sit in my wall of confusion....

some nice early British prog on the list!

Yeah there's a German crap metal band Kingdom Come too... made it a pain to search for the CDs way back when. Luckily they all got reissued at the same time and I grabbed 'em from Wayside.

Jonesy is pretty cool, lots of 'tron although the singing is rough.

There's also an alternative band called "Cast" that used to confuse my efforts to find the Mexican neo band. And there's a metal "Zao". So the world is odd indeed.

Steeleye Span were such a great band. Maddy Prior released a superb solo album called "Woman in the Wings". Various members of Jethro tull appear on it too.

Here's one fan's review of it.

"On buying this, I expected something pretty folky, even though the members of Jethro Tull pop up here and there. What I got was a great album with a range of different styles and some humour. The song 'I Told You So' is a comic song in the style of The Andrews Sisters (would you believe). 'Mother And Child' is a sad song with minimal piano accompaniment whereas 'Rosettes' has a distinct erotic subtext (well I think it does!). This is one of my favourite albums and much better than I expected - I must add that all 11 songs were composed by Maddy Prior herself, obviously an under-used songwriter."

Steeleye Span is indeed wonderful. I have not heard Maddy's solo work though.

The next two weeks will feature Canterbury music.

I may be starting late tonight since my MP3 encoder is very slow.

Regards,
Sean

There will be no show this week, as I will be at a hockey game. Of course I would never want to leave you guys without my awesome radio presence, but these were free tickets so I had no choice over the day of week.

I will return next week.
