The Moonie Absolute Favourite Tune Show!

Here is a new idea for a show to be organized once a year: The Moonie Absolute Favourite Tune Show!

Due to the possibility that we have to dedicate songs with our nick and some text, it should be possible to send an e-mail to the organizer of the show with the one and only favourite song of Progressive Rock (being in the library of AM). These should be queued up for one show lasting 24 hours. That means one day (like RQFW) only with the absolute favourite songs of the Moonies.

The rules should be only the followings:

For Moonies:
The tune is on AM
Max of x? characters for the dedication/explanation
Max length of the tune 15 min (to be discussed)

For the Organizer:
Try to play the tunes in respective time zone of the requester so that he can be online

Good schedule for such a show would be in December, not to interfere with Woj’s best of the year..

What do you think, and who volunteers as organizer?

Not a bad idea. In fact, a really good idea. But a logisitical nightmare.

One suggestion. Certain songs should be off-limits as "obvious" ones. In other words, "Awaken" is probably the absolute favorite of a dozen people. Same with "Supper's Ready." If people can select Awaken we'll have twelve Awakens (I'll select Awaken). Take the top 20 off the list and then we'd have a phenomenal show!

Re: The Moonie Absolute Favourite Tune Show!

Sorry to disagree Spaz but if the idea is to have a 24 hour show, then why not let it be a true Moonie's favourite show, not a true Moonie's favourite show except you can't include the top 20 (which would have to be decided upon, and the exclusion of same might be a downer for some).

Freeform, honest, and a real representation with all the ones we love, no limitations, no lists of can't haves. I'm thinking that in the space of 24 hours there would be lots of room for top 20 and everything else too.

Let the High Priestess of the Deserts Wisdom enlighten all. Of course Favorites are just that...why have someone else tell us it needs to be controlled

I think Lotus has a great idea.
The Moon Musically could do so much with its Catalogue. For instance I would love more specialized shows for more variety. We have Fusion Shows but none of classic prog exclusively .It would be my Favorites before 1985 every week

When you're the only Priestess of Desert Wisdom, I guess by default you're the highest?

With the "Awaken" example, just play it once, but acknowledge that it was a multiple selection. (Just call me Mr. Compromise, thank you)

My favorite is not on the Moon, and I have a vehicle to play mine, so I will recuse myself....great idea though!

Re: The Moonie Absolute Favourite Tune Show!

No, I never thought we should play Awaken ten times!

I understood spaz to say that he thought the top 20 songs shouldn't be played at all, and it was that that I was offering a different view on.

Awaken or whatever once, with reference to everyone who submitted it as their fave etc.

Actually, it might be a short show

Oh and sharc...

Definitely not sure about priestess and wisdom, but thank you. Unfortunately high has definitely been thin on the ground for about two decades.

This is exactly what I meant. In this way we are not overstressing any song, and every song "requested" is played.

Re: The Moonie Absolute Favourite Tune Show!

Why not have a separate show for the top 20, with the likes of Awaken and Suppers Ready likely to be included it could be aired the day after the 24 hour tuneathon ....... and repeated several times of course

Ya'll are proving my point. My absolute favorite is Awaken, but baby, there's no way I'm nominating it for the show, because I've got a really good chance someone else will do it for me So I'll pick something more esoteric. There's a chance more than one of us will do the same thing. I'm just saying as we vote for our favorites, let's purposefully pick something that's not a universal favorite. It guarantees a little more diversity than the obvious. I'm predicting all the 70s Yes epics will be in the show!

There are no Yes songs in my top 10.

If you don't pick you're favorite song, then you're not picking you're favorite song. So what's the point?

Re: The Moonie Absolute Favourite Tune Show!

To your Mossness, I thought HP of the D was a Fun title, You know our Queen in Seattle was ordained a long time ago in Europe. I Like to think of you as the Soul of the moon.

Our Favorites are just that, ...But one Play, X votes Make it the No. 1 Favorite or the 100th. This is lotus's job to compile, like Woj in Jan. (sorry my friend but who else will do the work?)

I'm reminded of Preseason NFL football, more precisely the Press Coverage.
For Months Speculation about Players is Bantered each day, particularly new additions to the teams....after 6 weeks and readiness for that 1st game, all those players written about have been cut and all that was said about them for 6 weeks is....never-mind. There is no Aural Favorites Show that I Know of..... and I'm sure Yes WOULD be in My List, Hey I'm Old School

Re: The Moonie Absolute Favourite Tune Show!

I loved your title, sharc. I took it as a compliment and I'm not very good with those.

As for you...you are the Sound Druid of the Woods. Always thought of you as that.

Rick, has a good point spaz lol. If we're avoiding picking our fave because we think everyone else will, what are we supposed to pick. I think you should pick Awaken anyway. Part of the fun would be to see just how many people love the same song.

I don't have any Yes in my top 10 either.

Re: The Moonie Absolute Favourite Tune Show!

Rick, you could do this for one of your shows. Open up the polls to all moonies to vote for their favorite song on the moon. Each member gets one vote only and the Top 20? gets played on a favorites edition of the Richter Scale show. So how about that? MAke it an annual event!

I could, but it's more fun foisting my picks on you all!

Seriously, maybe when I go to England, that weekend or more likely towards the end of 2006...let's see how it goes.

My original idea was not to make a "hit list" with the most voted favorites, but that every favorite gets played without and weighting. If by chance there is a tune wich is choosen (not voted) several times, it should be played only once, mentioning all the moonies which choosed it.

In best case, if 100 e-mails come in with 100 different tunes, 100 tunes are played, just as a super request queue with dedication.

I think we all agreed on that. And it is your idea after all.

Re: The Moonie Absolute Favourite Tune Show!

Well I agree with Spaz but I guess we're outnumbered. The "reason" behind eliminating the top 20 is because it will likely end up being the "same old same old" we work so hard to avoid day in and day out. Just my opinion.

I absolutely will NOT veto what people want to do though...
