Question podcasts of shows?

I was chatting with Cozy during the replay of his show a couple nights ago and wondered whether podcasts of shows could be made available on the Moon. He said the idea had been kicked around but not resolved so I said I'd start a thread to discuss it and so I am. I love the shows, but it's hard to remember what I liked more than a day later (yeah I know lay off the beer...) even though the song lists are posted, unless I was already familiar with a tune, it's likely the name doesn't mean that much to me so it'd be nice to go back to the show to refresh my memory before I buy a CD or whatever to make sure I get the right one. Is this possible? Are there RIAA or ASCAP or whatever restrictions that would prevent this? Is there any interest in this except from me?

Re: podcasts of shows?

The main problem with podcasts of my show is that they are archived in WMA format. I would have to convert them to MP3 in order for them to be useful to most people.

Re: podcasts of shows?

With my show, you should be able to get what you need without the podcasts. The shows are archived in the thread. Some listeners have emailed me or Davin (and forwarded to me) questions. We've been able to piece together who the artist in question is.

Hopefully, I provide enough information to point you in the direction you're looking for. I know Cozy and Moses can service a podcast request, but I merely pull together a show from the Moon library and my personal library. Right after the show, I make like Jim Phelps and destroy the tapes.

It's the only way I can keep putting out a new show each week. I've missed very few shows in 2+ years, so it's working out.

I'd suggest just jotting down a little about the song and asking (especially the time played). I'm always glad to discuss. And, I'll replay some of the favorite songs - in fact, I haven't done that for while, maybe in April.

Let me know, jt, what else I can do.

Re: podcasts of shows?

Thanks for responding guys. It sounds like it would be more work and in Rick's case not really practical. I suppose I can always just use a stream grabber if I want and make my own. Also since nobody else posted any comments my guess is that most people don't have a need for it. Thanks for the shows!

It still may be doable in Cozy's case and I know he's into it...don't give up, keep fighting lol...

I think some other listeners do the grab thang.....

Question Re: podcasts of shows?

Well, I suppose it might be nice having a link area somewhere on the Moon that would allow those who wanted to make podcasts available to post links to the external files. That would be the simplest solution from the Moon maintenance/disk space point of view. I DL'd a free stream grabber called CastRipper and it seems to work well, it even splits the stream into files for you and there's a pay version that let's you schedule rips. I dunno, I guess if somebody wants to make podcasts available on the Moon they should comment, otherwise listeners can just use stream grabbers and make their own.

The podcast issue is not a technical one, it is a legal/licensing/fees issue.

I guess that puts an end to it then, thanks VAX.
