Interzone - 3/27/07 - ECM #5
Hey Moonies,
This week I'll be continuing the series that explores the vast amount of music to be found on the ECM label. ECM emerged at a time when the US was setting most of the trends in the jazz recording business. Eicher’s vision was to bring new and contemporary ideas to classic music traditions while also producing records of distinct production quality. The end result is a diverse catalog of music in the jazz, jazz-rock, avant-garde, new age, and contemporary music veins. ECM is a nice match for a show like Interzone as you’ll discover that the music does not typify your common jazz, and several artists on the label have recorded music in the jazz-rock, world music, and avant-garde, much of which appeals to prog fans. Here's the playlist: Jan Garbarek -Reflections-(Places) -1978-Norway Steve Kuhn-A Change of Face-(Trance)-1975-USA Dave Holland Quartet-Nemesis-(Extensions) -1990-England John Surman -Double Tripper-(Nordic Quartet) -1995-USA John Surman -Ved Sorevatn-(Nordic Quartet) -1995-USA Egberto Gismonti Trio-ZigZag-(ZigZag) -1996-Brazil Pat Metheny Group-Phase Dance-(Pat Metheny Group)-1978-USA Kenny Wheeler -Gnu Suite-(Gnu High) -1976-Canada Ralph Towner -Waterwheel-(Batik) -1978-USA Alex Cline -Eminence-(The Lamp And The Star) -1989-USA Nik Bärtsch’s Ronin-Modul 33-(Stoa) -2006-Switzerland Eberhard Weber -Maurizius-(Later That Evening) -1982-Germany Bennie Maupin -The Jewel in the Lotus-(The Jewel In The Lotus)-1974-USA Miroslav Vitous -Faith Run-(Universal Syncopations) -2003-Czechoslovakia Featured Album: Rainer Brüninghaus --(Freigeweht) -1981-Germany Hope you enjoy! - Cozy
