Re: Gagliarchives

Interesting results so far. Maybe a little unfair.

My $0.02. Tom Gagliardi is clearly an icon in the prog world. It's fun to listen to the show live. The commercials just suck the life out of it though after listening to commercial free AM. The rebroadcast is probably unnecessary. If you really have your heart set on listening to it but have better things to do on a Saturday night, then just TIVO it (or whatever the internet streaming equivalent is called).

Precisely!

It's called recording. I know! Both Roger Lee and I sit up Saturday evenings baby-sitting the retransmission and recording of Tom's four hour time slot so that AM can bring this informative show to you with our Tuesday replay. I could be going other -- less altruistic -- things like sleeping but I feel it's important to get this informative show on the air to as many who will listen as possible.

The commercials (public service announcements), and I've tried to explain this before, are required by FCC. I'll take a public service announcement any day over the loud in-your-face advertising of most commercial radio. I know our listeners in the "not-so-free world" can't understand this because they've been force to pay tax on their airwaves to listen to programming. Here in the land of the de-fray and the home of deprave, we have a different model. I'd wager that BCC/WBZC would gladly accept money to buy license and keep the public service announcements out of the broadcast. However, you people grouse about $50/year for 128K stream access, so I'm not going to bother suggesting you remunerate for public service free Gagliarchives.

Some don't like the talking/interviews. If that was the case, it would just be like the other shows here. I like hearing from some of the musicians Tom has interviewed. There are, of course, some I don't but that's life -- you get the good with the bad without much choice. Tom also gets guests in the studio and often they will performing live. I've been there for some of these live bits too. It's too bad too that the Gagliarchives return to AM was one week after the Radio Massacre International (RMI) performance in Tom's studio. AM listeners that enjoy electronica a la Tangerine Dream would have truly enjoyed this broadcast. I enjoyed it live in the studio!

Lest you forget as well, Tom mentions AM on his show. It's done much, IMHO, for the stature for AM in the prog community.

Tom's show is reminiscent of the heyday of Art/Progressive rock radio too. He does proud the likes of Ed Sciaky, Helen Leight, Michael Tearson and others on the then -- not now -- WMMR, WYSP, WIOQ and other radio stations from the Philly airspace as well as WSAN in Allentown, PA where the likes of Larry Fast himself used to DJ!

PS. I've been reading the poll results and I am appalled at the negativity toward this show. Even more unsettling to me are the names of those who have negatively tainted the poll!

Re: Gagliarchives

I had posted a comment in my poll asking people not to comment on the polls. I removed it thinking it was not necessary but I'm having second thoughts.

Personally, I would like to have these polls just as polls. The comments for or against taint the poll.

I made a suggestion to Jim to move these to a sticky so that they stay at the top of the page. Perhaps we can unsticky the Altruism thread which has been dormant for awhile.

I'm not sure showing the results as they occur is the best thing, but it matters not to me either way. I'm not a marketing savvy person. What I DO know is that voting should be anonymous, and I was under the impression that only Jim was to know the names of the voters. I don't see any taint on the poll.

PS - This is just in response - my preferred view is to just have the poll and let Management sift through the results.

Indeed he is and I feel that Aural Moon should be honoured to run his show.

Re: Gagliarchives

There should be no comments in these threads. Also, there should be no mention at all of who has voted in these polls.

VAX....I know you are the watcher of the moon, watcher of all, but Jim stated in his opening post that these results would be ANONYMOUS. I'm sorry but this doesn't look anonymous to me.

They are ANONYMOUS and I'm keeping them that way.

vBulletin, which is providing the polling function, must track who has voted to maintain one vote per user poll. That non-admins cannot see the results by voter is the only anonymity it promises.

anonymous |əˈnänəməs|
adjective
(of a person) not identified by name; of unknown name : the anonymous author of Beowulf | the donor's wish to remain anonymous | an anonymous phone call.
• having no outstanding, individual, or unusual features; unremarkable or impersonal : the anonymous black car waiting to take him to the airport | a faceless, anonymous group.
• [ postpositive ] used in names of support groups for addicts of a substance or behavior to indicate the confidentiality maintained among members of the group : Alcoholics Anonymous | Debtors Anonymous.

"• having no outstanding, individual, or unusual features"

In that case there was no need to comment on the voting in the way you did was there?

Forget it. My vote is cast and I don't give a tinkers cuss who knows but some people might (and do).

Re: Gagliarchives

Jim said these polls would be anonymous. I assumed that meant anonymity to everyone, including Moon admin. If that were not the case, we should have been told upfront.

Second, if Moon admin ARE privy to the results, making comments like "Even more unsettling to me are the names of those who have negatively tainted the poll" makes a joke of the entire polling process.

Sorry vax.

That's a fair comment as such from you Vax BUT it also tells me that democracy in the voting which guarantees anonymity has been broken. Would you like being told that the system knows what you voted in the secret box ? No, neither do I and I support the comments from Keithie and Mossy.

Re: Gagliarchives

Any who did not think that the admins could tell who voted, and how they voted is being just a little naive about how polling works in a computerized system.

Re: Gagliarchives

I can tell you that I have not even looked at the admin function relative to these polls. I truly was simply trying to get a feel for each show's popularity, to best utilize the time dedicated to shows. I am not trying to build a case for eliminating or keeping any show. Certain people are and have been very vocal in support or not of certain shows, and I want to get a broader opinion base.

My ultimate goal is to broaden the Aural Moon listening experience. There is a lot of great music already on the playlist, and more being added constantly, that rarely or never gets heard. I am trying to remedy that.

Any other agenda is not mine and not welcome.

Excellent, well said! I want to say the following:

1) If need be I will drop to two hours, no problem.

2) I expected the results to be anonymous. I'm sure they are. But vax you need to realize that his comment pissed a lot of people off. There's no need to quote chapter and verse about everything, vax. No one is saying anything else about you. Vax just take it like a man PLEASE and realize you said something you didn't want to. Hell I do it all the time! That's all anyone is saying. I hope you understand. If not, I'm sorry but I had to say it. And now i'm not worried about it anymore.

3) If we made the poll results hidden until the end I think that would help.

4) I'm going to try (lol) post a lot less from now on...too much drama.

Vote on please!

4) And making it a sticky would help too. The others are buried.

Agree, BM, but it would have been nice to have kept us in the illusion. Instead of starting a new thread (Anti Administration Cabal), to which Goo gave a good and valid answer which I second 100%, it would have been nice, Vax, if you just would have said: "Guys, sorry for that comment".

We all appreciate you efforts here Vax, without you and your work here AM would not be working as it is. Therefore please do not take everything to serious, have a good pint of Guinness and enjoy!

[quote=VAXman;31348You're pissed because I commented about the level of negativity.

If this continues, you can consider my station reboot today at 15:00 to be my last maintenance effort for AM.[/QUOTE]

I didn't say anything others didn't say here. One sentence is all we have issue with.

Why did you think I said keep the results private? I am not pissed at all. no one need to know the results of Tom's poll or any other.

If you would like to use me as a lightning rod to air your views, so be it. I am only sorry that others may suffer because you choose me as the whipping boy.

Please read lotus or magoo's or mossy's or keith's comments. They only say what i do. And I received many more privately unfortunately.

And now i must tend to my family. I've already shooed off too much of work. All for naught I fear. Sorry everyone.
