Re: Progday

I have a hotel room. The bands are not up my alley, but I do need to listen more closely to a few. Not an abigail's ghost fan...however, I think I am still going. Although the 3RP is the weekend before, the plans are made...too many friends to catch up with at Progday to say no.

Not familiar with Von Frickle. They have good reviews. Are they any good?

Re: Progday

I have to admit I am not familiar with most of the bands announced so far. I have a hotel room booked but I might not be able to go. Whether I go or not will depend to some extent on who the final two bands are(probably both will be headliners). I have been personally involved with the festival for the past two years and for a little while longer anyway am still on the promotions team so I will be dissapointed if I don't go but like I said it will depend on the headliners(if I don't know them then I don't see the point). I've been down there the past three years in a row and don't want to stop now if I can help it.

I read in PE today that Ain Soph is to be one of the headliners (was the first band announced I think).

That could very well be the case. It depends on who made that announcement.

Personally I don't think they are quite headliner material but that's just my opinion. They are, however, every bit (if not more so) as much of a headliner band as 3, IZZ or Qoph. Ultimately It will probably depend on who the other two bands are. Personally, I think Kenso are more well known. It will be interesting nonetheless to see who the two other bands are. I'm not on the band selection committee so these things about who is the headliner and who isn't don't always come up when the initial announcement is made.

One of Steve Sly's posts. There is a chance I didn't read it right, but it was in response to the same type of inquiry you made (who the headliners would be).

Speaking of the selection committee, I do know one person that was on it (and dropped out). It's been a difficult go of it for getting bands this year.

That is true. It seems that this year and last year announcements have been made rather late and it definitely seems to affect ticket sales. Adding to the low numbers is the fact that it seems to be increasingly difficult to get attention grabbing headliners. One of the places I make announcements regarding band announcements is on here because I figure the aural moon people are more likely to know about the obscure bands than say the myspace prog groups where I also post. Steve does post on PE(I don't but I use to occasionally-i'm no longer on there)so that probably was him making that announcement. If there is only one headliner left to be announced then I am definitely curious as to who it might be. I'm going to roll my dice for the New Trolls since they had a new cd out not too long ago but I'm not holding my breathe.

Re: Progday

Well, I think Canvas Solaris and Von Frickle alone would make it worth going. I'm still working out the logistics, but my plan is to get out there and be more social than usual. I hope Mike413 will make it, as he is supposed to tutor me on the finer points of picking up prog women!

Sorry...inside joke.

Well, Mike Keneally played a few years ago. Zappa plays Zappa would be cool though.

Re: Progday

Now that Mirthrandir is playing, I'm guessing I will have to go.

I know Alan Benjamin well and Simon Gannett has ties to my wife's family, so I feel obligated to go.

Re: Progday

I'm sure Alan will understand if you don't though...

Found out the headliner for day 2 and it was not announced since the contract was not yet completely finalized. But I will say that alone, the band will make the trip worthwhile for me (even though they will play at Orion the day prior).

Eventually I will check out the bands I don't know, but I should go to see some good friends...and talkingto Steve Sly over the weekend psyched me anyway...

Re: Progday

OK. Being that I am on the PD promotions team I feel obligated to say something here.

Mirthrandir has not been officially announced(yet)as one of the bands on the ProgDay lineup. Therefore I can neither confirm nor deny that they will play at PD this year. I guess sometimes word gets out a bit prematurely. Anyway, eventhough there has been no official announcement yet( again I use that word so there's a clue right there it should be official very soon.

Here kitty kitty go back in the bag.

Mike,

Mirthrandir was announced by Steve to the Nearfest crowd, I believe, and the unannounced headliner (which will come out this week I hope) was told to me by Steve and Mike Potter. That's as official as it gets.

I'm sure vax will make sure before he books a flight

But thanks for the update...I'm now goping to try to cut myself off from all of this so I can catch up on the mountain of work that awaits for me, like a leech wanting my blood.

Yup! I saw the band in question this spring at the NJPH!
