Show 2 - 10/3 & 4 2004 (Mix II)

I'm going to do one more mixed bag show before I turn specific themes loose. Some of the songs are kinda funky, and some others push the boundaries of prog. But I think you wil enjoy it all the same.

1) Kraan - Jerk of Life - Kraan Live

One to get you in the mood.

2) Gentle Giant - Pantagruel's Nativity - Acquiring the Taste

This one has all things Giant - a little trumpet, a little xylophone, a blistering guitar lead....the masters at work.

3) Sylvian/Fripp - God's Monkey - The First Day

Is Bob Fripp actually SMILING on the record cover? You would be too if you made such a great CD. Sylvian sings so smooth.....

4) Tommy Bolin - Post Toastee - Private Eyes

A classic rocker. Enjoy.

5) Steve Tibbets - Yr - Ur

A technical genius who blows me away with a simple TWANGGGGG

6) Saga - Careful Where You Step - Silent Knight

These guys are in MY rock and roll hall of fame.

7) Gamalon - Jungle Fever - Gamalon

Something to change the mood...Ted Reinhardt plays everything on this one.

8) Ozric Tentacles - Imhotep - There Is Nothing

Typical of their earlier stuff, less riffing and more freaky.

9) Crack The Sky - Ice - Live at the Recher 6/19/99

I've seen this band about 15 times....and this is a show I was in attendance. Their versions of this and "She's A Dancer" are stunning. You will LOVE this one.

10) Brand X - XXL - Manifest Destiny

Another atypical tune by a classic band...picked it to get everyone dancing at their keyboards.

11) Acuity - Cul-de-sacs of Venus - Skyward

A subtle tune (unlike the rest of the CD)....with Mathew Parmenter on violin on this one.

12) Ozzy Osbourne - Diary of A Madman - (same)

My metal contribution for this week, a song of uncommon depth.

13) Uriah Heep - The Wizard

Kevishev's contribution.....thanks!

14) Djam Karet - Night of the Mexican Goat Sucker - Live at Nearfest 2001

The boys go to town on this one....brings back memories.

15) King's X - Out of the Silent Planet - Gretchen Goes to Nebraska

One of my favorite bands. Chromatically and sonically brilliant.

16) Extreme - Cupid's Dead - III Sides To Every Story

After their first high-school like first record, they put out three really good ones. This may be the one of the tightest songs I have ever heard. A powerhouse of a song.

17) Ben Mink - Vis-A-Vis - Foreign Exchange

I was estatic to find this on CD....a college favorite. A very pretty song to boot.

18) Tool - The Grudge - Lateralus

A powerful song. Maynard's scream towards the end is great. Exemplifies all that is good about this band.

19) Paul Weller - Shadow of the Sun - Wildwood

To bring us down a bit before Ms. Bush. My favorite song off of one of my favorite records, such a passionate tune.

20-31) Kate Bush - Hounds of Love

Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)
Hounds of Love
The Big Sky
Mother Stands For Comfort
Cloudbusting
And Dream of Sheep
Under Ice
Waking the Witch
Watching You Without Me
Jig of Life
Hello Earth
The Morning Fog

I can't say enough wonderful things about this record. "Cloudbusting" is just outstanding.

Feedback (good and bad) is always welcome. Hope you can all make it!

You dogman you!!!

Tool on AM!!! The world is a perfect place! The Grudge - what a sleeper of a song. I remember the first time that I heard it I thought to myself "where is this going". After a half-dozen listens I got it. Such rhythmic textures!

Warn me next time you do so much Kate Bush, willya? I mean I'm sure she's a nice lady, kind to her mother, hard working, and all that, but her voice makes my teeth itch, and in my condition, that's saying something.

I'm playing a full record on practically every show. It's my theory that this is how the music was intended.

All I can say about Kate Bush is that it got great feedback.....I hope you'll like other full-length selections in the future, because I pay a lot for my kids' dental work and I need not worry about yours.

I have no problem with playing an entire album during your show.

I just don't like Kate Bush, that's all.

One of the benefits of being in my position is that I can visit the dentist without ever touching a chair.

I'll take him best two of three over systems configuration any day, and twice on sunday.
