Aural Moon Band
Is it possible? I am sure there are some musicians on the Moon. Is there a way to bring us together via the technology of the computer? Could we lay down a recording and have someone mix it together? what are your thoughts?
As always, aloha |

but yes, it's not only possible, but relatively easy. We've started down this road a few times, but for some reason it dies on the vine. In all fairness, I've seen the same thing happen on other sites. Kirk

Long time no see! It has happened on other sites, it's died on the vines, and it has also succeeded. On the Gentle Giant forum, we are on our 4th (or 5th since the first one was a double). Matter of fact, it was just released and I anxiously await for it to be added to AM's playlist, I hope. We even had another Moony take part in this one- Rob Grant (yorksrvc) played bass on a prog epic about 14 minutes in length or so I did with Glenn Lilljeblad. There was a very good album made by the folks on the Eddie Jobson forum, Theme of Appreciation. http://www.repple.se/toa/ It does take an organizer, someone who will keep things going and keep people who have tiring day jobs motivated. I will be happy to contribute musically if anyone likes, and I could help with what I have learned, but I'm already stretched with our project, so that would be the limit of my participation. But we can have some fun! |

Re: Aural Moon Band
well, i guess it could die on the vine as you say. I think the first step would be to identify the musicians on here. I for one play bass. If nothing else, let's see who responds and see what we can learn from each other.

Re: Aural Moon Band
Well, before the ravens left the tower I could help with mellow drums, atmosphere or little lead keyboards, lyrics (song titles) and perhaps some Mountain King ooohs and aaahs.
I am (or was) a part of The Beardedsproject. You need six or eight people who have main song ideas and you have to know their musically roots, basics, spectrums & abilities and their speed of work. You must be ready for swallow things down if the others don't like your ideas. Make sure that they will be impassionate, loyal and have open minds for music that they won't play at normally. We need sixteen months for our maintrack Hope, so if you want to rock on X-mas 2009... |

Re: Aural Moon Band
very interesting website. perhaps if someone were to start it with a main theme, and then anyone who wants to add something can on an individual track, then someone can take the role of mixing it together.

Re: Aural Moon Band
What if we start with a half baked idea...an unfinished composition put up here to inspire others to add to it. OR...a ready composition which just needs some additional instrumentation...anyone have anything?

Re: Aural Moon Band
Here is a guitarist with at least decent playing skills but no composing experience.

Re: Aural Moon Band
First AM project was set up in 2004 (if I remember well) so "AM bands" is in general a pretty long tradition of going nowhere
![]() In terms of music creation via Internet I have 4 years of experience. But in terms of achieved results I could be considered total layman. It's sooooooo hard to find bunch of people who are willing to work on something more than 1/3 of the song. Song is a success, epic is a miracle, album is... at least unlikely. If you want just to play around some sounds, it is easy. If you'd like to record good piece of music without asking 30 people to join, it's hard. Very hard. If I knew that earlier I'm not sure if I would be setting up all those projects. 4 years of waiting and begging. The biggest problems with the guitarists btw :P.

Re: Aural Moon Band
HI Wojtek, Lellu & Ken,
Perhaps what made the other projects get off the ground was the fact that we were getting submissions from people already in bands, or people who did all the parts to their music. But there were a few collaborations. In the case of one of my songs on the latest project, we had 3 keyboard players, a bass player, a drummer, 2 guitar players. I suppose we got lucky in that when each one sent a part, I liked all the parts and incorporated them into the piece. Sometimes, you won't like a part sent to you, then you tell the other person and there are hurt feelings. In projects like this, you have to accept that someone might not like your ideas. I've had times where I changed my song because someone had a better idea, so to make this work, we need to be willing to accept rejection as well as accepting a new way to look at our own compositions...we also need more musicians to participate....so, who's in? ![]() ![]() ![]() Looks like I just repeated in different words what Prickly said... BTW, we also need musicians who have the equipment to record as well... Last edited by Andyyyy : 06-23-2008 at 02:31 PM. |

Re: Aural Moon Band
Andy, thanks to the response. I think all the responses have been useful. As for me, I can handle rejection quite well. I have good equipment, I have a fender jazz bass, fretless, and a alembic spoiler, I have a roland digital recording board as well. I have never participated in something like this, but I am ready to in whatever capacity I can.

Re: Aural Moon Band
I'm interested. I play guitar and bass and some keys, but mostly guitar. I can sing fairly well, too. I've got a ProTools rig at my disposal, but no internet connection in the studio.
I'm curious as to how to deal with audio file portability and transfer - any ideas? Borfus www.myspace.com/borfuswallabymusic www.myspace.com/studiohband www.everydayprophets.com Last edited by Borfus : 06-26-2008 at 04:34 PM. |

I play guitar (classical and electric), bass, mountain dulcimer; Lead and harmony vocals; experienced songwriter/arranger; Lyricist/conceptualist; Good equipment all around.
I have a Roland guitar synth also.

kirk and I have thrown a couple of ideas around in the past, and I'd enjoy being part of this one, too. keys, vocals, bass, rhythm guitar, Logic Studio, and more ideas than I know what to do with...
