I know I'm gonna get killed
Okay, I'm sitting through Images and Words on Extended Play today...
...and I know I'm gonna get creamed for this... ...but I just can't help but think that the huge majority of this album is just crap. A total waste of music. It just all sounds the same to me.. every song is on a road to nowhere... The vocals sound like high pitched whining. Sorry, folks - had to get that on my chest. Dream Theater and I just don't get along. /flame on Avian |

You don't have to like everything....
Dream Theater????? Not bad but not great.
I wouldn't run screaming out of the room if someone played them but wouldn't go out of my way to hear them either. Are we going to get into the fifth or is it sixth DT yes/no discussion?? ![]() Arrrrrgh!!!!!!!!! |

A dozen HA's
that should do it, Jim!
It's funny about vocals. I couldn't do IQ for a long time because of the first (and returning) vocalist. Some people feel that way about Giant (not me, I love that British style). The "Metropolis" tune is a killer. Try to listen to that one for the hell of it (not to include it on the playlist). There are several other songs throughout their tenure that's probably AM worthy, but it's only one band. Screw it. Instrumentally, I think they are TOO complicated. The spinoff bands (LTE, for instance) - same way. I have both Transatlantics, but the more I listen, the less I'm interested. Must be that overblown New York state of mind. |

Actually, I don't hate DT as much as Avian, but I certainly don't like them enough to add much (if any) of their stuff. I heard part of one song awhile back (I forget which one, an instrumental I think) that I would add, but I don't own it and don't care enough to track it down. But most of their stuff doesn't strike me as prog - some nice instrumental breaks sprinkled into fairly straight ahead metal.
I do actually like LTE, though I don't play it often - have to be in the right mood. Transatlantic is much the same as Spock's Beard to me, in that I can listen to any one song, but after that it all feels pretty much the same. It's basically a pop song feel/structure with instrumental showing off - not a lot of sustained interest. |

Looking for the bait....
didn't find it! Well said Jim. A red-letter day - agreed with everything you said (although I own 5 DT CD's).

Understandably, I don't consider all of I&W to be prog, but someone mentioned it and I thought people would enjoy it. Hell, if Gnosis has punk then I can have hair-metal ballads with my rush-like metal ![]() Anyway, like I told both you and Jim some time ago. I'm more than willing to compile the DT songs to go on the station. It's not a huge list, but I think it has just as much of a place here as the classical music. Actually, I'll post the list here after I compile it. I pity the fool that don't love some Dream Theater. Tommy |

Oh, don't get me wrong - I fully support it being on EP... I don't like it but some folks may. But it will never be a mainstay of our playlist like it is on other prog radio stations.

Aural Moon is definitely unique for its playlist in our genre and that makes me very proud to be a part of the team. However, making it an all or none decision is a bit much. Overall, it is still the decision of Jim and Avian, but I'm a very interested and vocal party ![]() Tommy My picks: Eve Space Dye Vest Erotomania Learning To Live The Dance of Eternity Strange Deja Vu Ytsejam Metropolis A Change of Seasons |

There are are others that I'm sure would classify as "personal favorites", but that's a very good list!!!

Dance Of Eternity was the one I heard and liked.

I know
I'm just being a smart-ass.
I'm waiting for "Lines In The Sand" to be forwarded by Yeaspaz, 'cause Doug Pinnick of King's X is on vocals. More incest! |

Oh, I was thinking of this...
It Does Make Sense, DagNabbit! And I was even more confused because Ty sings on "Lies in the Sand."

OK, you all straight now?
Let's see - why would I make a big deal about a King's X song that one of their own members sings on? This is a Dream Theater post. And, it's a fairly cool tune.
Oh, and that "Similar or related artists" feature that's shown when you click the link just made me lose my lunch. Of course I mean the intermixing (is that a word?) of prog people. |
