COTM - #90 - Agnus and Jack Lancaster

Greetings Moon Listeners!

This week’s Corner of the Mooniverse feature will hover around the year 1980 (or at least have a connection). We will start with a group from Argentina with a definite Symphonic background. Agnus formed in 1973 and were inspired by groups like Banco del Mutuo Soccorso and PFM. They tried to release a cassette of their first album around 1976. Even with their own record label, Marvus, they failed. It was not until 1980 that they were finally able to release their only album, Pinturas Y Expresiones. The group was led by Guitarist Luis Saez, with the core of the band being Keyboardist Laura Fazzio, Violinist Enrique Shussler, and drummer Ricardo Bonetto.

Our 2nd artist this week is Jack Lancaster. He was one of the co-founders of Blodwyn Pig along with ex-Jethro Tull guitarist Mick Abrahams. After that time he worked mostly as a session musician, as well as producing, writing and arranging music for a small list of Who’s Who musicians, including Brian Eno, Vangelis, Rod Argent, Hans Zimmer and Phil Collins. Lancaster found himself in one circle of musicians in particular, those of Brand X. You can find many of them credited on Jack’s solo album Skinningrove Bay, which I will play in this program.

Robin Lumley was one of the keyboardists for Brand X. In 1976, he and Lancaster produced an album called Marscape. This album also features a majority of the Brand X musicians, including Percy Faith, John Goodsall and Phil Collins. That album will close out the show.

I do hope you can stop by and catch a few tunes.
