Name This Horse!

Ok,

We bought a horse this week. It's a 4-year old Belgian mare (draft horse). It's big, massive, almost war-like horse.

Come up with a prog-related name for her! Here's a picture

Wow that's a big horse !! Is she for riding? Or for moving buildings? I got a quarter horse named "Dan". Real imaginative name there huh? (No, I didn't name him} So as to names for her, here's some suggestions:

Djam Karet
Galadriel
Amazing Grace
Siberian Khatru
Shadowfax
Xanadu
or any one of the many strange Ozric Tentacles song names.

Best of luck with her !!

My ideas:

"No Name" - she's a Belgian mare, and there's a band from Luxembourg called "No Name" (Belgium and Luxembourg are both small, French speaking countries (at least part of Belgium)) Plus, "I've been through the desert on a horse with No Name"

"Dancer" - Horses will always remind me of Tull (Heavy Horses). On "Crest Of A Knave", there's a song "Said She Was A Dancer"

"Jim" - I always suggest that to my friends expecting babies - they never listen :-)

and my real suggestion - "Icarus" - I'll explain if necessary, but it should be the obvious winner.

Not really. We are still calling her by her original name for now ("Ruthie") until something sticks.

Keep the suggestions coming, though!

My suggestion comes from the extensive Hawkwind catalog. On the 1975 album "Warriors On The Edge Of Time," there is an awesome track called "Magnu," about this magical horse. I've pasted the lyrics to the song below. If they remind you at all of Ruthie, perhaps Magnu would be a better replacement (it certainly is prog enough).

MAGNU
(Dave Brock)

Magnu, horse with golden mane, I want your help yet once again,
Walk not the earth but fly through space, as lightning flash or thunders race
Swift as the arrow from the bow, come to me so that no one can know.
Sunbeams are my shafts to kill, all men who dare imagine ill,
Deceit that fears the light of day, fly from the glory of my ray,
Good minds open and take new light, until we diminish by the reign of night
A burning brand was seen to fall, it lit the darkness of the hall,
The flying hoofbeats circling in, come to me and let us spin.

3 suggestions:

Mouse - the name of Newt's horse in Lonesome Dove
Glue Stick - If you have a weird sense of humor
Alpo - If you have a sick sense of humor

Yesspaz out.

The Horse with No Name

I always liked the name Rocinante for a horse. It was the name of the ship in Rush's Cygnus X-1 and the name of Don Quixote's horse that he used to tilt at windmills

Just a quick note.

Our horse, Starry Night's Ruth, died in early August of cancer. Apparantly, she contracted cancer about 4 months after this picture was taken. She was only 5 years old - cancer is very, very rare in a horse this young. She will be sorely missed.
