Show 8 - Classic Prog

This week we'll have songs mainly from what I consider the golden period of rock....1970-1976. I was a little too young to see most of these bands in their prime.

Hope it will bring back some memories..........

1) Traffic - Glad - John Barleycorn Must Croak

A fine starter.

2) Elton John - Out of the Blue - Blue Moves

One of the most underrated records and a great prog instrumental.

3) Focus - Focus, Anonymous - Focus

Couldn't pick between the two.....a special thanks to Keith for coming through with the goods.

4) Beatles - Rain - Past Masters Vol. 2

Why not?

5) Genesis - Seven Stones - Nursery Cryme

A beautiful tune, kind of forgotten in the catalogue.

6) Chicago - Poem 58 - Chicago Transit Authority

This record kicks ass. The tune is basically Terry Kath showing off and then a verse.

7) Kansas - Song For America (same)

One of my favorite Kansas tunes. Structured so nicely.

8) T2 - No More White Horses

This is from a 3 cd set (Legend of A Mind) also given to me by Keith a while back. A great tune.

9) BOC - Subhuman - Secret Treaties

One of the best records IMO ever made. They were way ahead of their time.

10) Scorpions - Inheritance - Lonesome Crow

Their 1972 debut is basically Michael Schenker going to town on jazzy/rock songs. Except for a handful of tunes on Lovedrive, this is his only appearance with the band. When they added Ulrich Roth, they changed their style dramatically.

11) Heart - Dream of the Archer - Little Queen

I could have picked anything from this record .

12) Deep Purple - No,No,No - Fireball

Yes Yes Yes! Man what a rocker.....

13) King Crimson - Easy Money - Larks' Tongues In Aspic

Dee da do dow dow..da do dee dow...da da dow...da do do...

14) Queen - March of the Black Queen - Queen II

A monster tune, full of twists and turns. Shows the versatility of the band.

15) Jethro Tull - Life's A Long Song - Living In The Past

The minstrel sings an all too true tune.

16) Led Zeppelin - No Quarter - The Song Remains the Same

Love this version.

17) Wishbone Ash - Time Was - Argus

Close your eyes and enjoy.

18) Robin Trower - Lady Love - Bridge of Sighs

I'm saving my favorite Trower tune for a few weeks....in the meantime, this will do. James Dewar has such a bluesy vocal.

19) Styx - The Grove of Eglantine - The Serpent Is Rising

Styx at their prog apex. Lots of Genesis influence on this tune.

20) Pink Floyd - A Pillow of Winds - Meddle

A mellow one to float to.................

Gentle Giant - Three Friends

Prologue
Schooldays
Working All Day
Peel The Paint
Mister Class And Quality?
Three Friends

All of GG's traits rolled into one. You got the mellow, the xylophones, the wild guitar. Three Shulman's on this one!
This CD is timeless.
