Interzone - May 24, 2005: Time Capsule III - 1996
Hello,
Please join me for another week of Interzone. This week we’ll be opening The Time Capsule, going back 9 years playing music from 1996. The Time Capsule shows will focus on various music all released in a particular year. However, generally I will be avoiding some of the more obvious selections and focusing on a mix of somewhat obscure music from that time or perhaps just some things you’ve forgotten about, hoping that even experienced listeners will find something new of interest. 1996 was an exciting year in the world of progressive rock and other forms of underground music. The internet was fast becoming a means of communication between like-minded individuals formerly separated by distance. The Progday festival was one of many just starting to get notoriety, and the idea of a resurgence sparked a lot old fan’s interests. While there was a still thriving established neo-prog movement, a “third-wave” of progressive rock bands were starting to make noise on the scene. So 1996 will go down in history for being one of the formative years in what we consider the present day underground music movement. - Cozy Playlist to come...
