Show 74 - "My Kind of Band"

CHICAGO, ladies and gentlemen....

An exciting show this week. You'll love it....A show I've been wanting to do for a long time.

Songs from their first eight releases, as follows:

(please follow the key closely)

I = 1
II = 2
III = 3
here's where it's tricky, I don't own IV (live one)
V = 5
VI = 6
VII = 7
VIII = 8

Introduction 1

Vocals by the late great Terry Kath. Their first song off the first record. Has the guitar solo, the jazzy horns, all the great Chicago sounds.

Movin' In 2

Kath again, a happy tune.

Free 3

A little bit of soul.

Dialogue (Parts 1 and 2) 5

Kath and Peter Cetera play against each other as establishment and college activist. A rocking song with the unforgettable ending "We can make it happen"

Feelin' Stronger Every Day 6

A personal credo of mine. I like to remember it when I'm feeling down.

Woman Don't Want To Love Me 7

Features the funky keys, vocals and songwriting prowess of Bobby Lamm. Triple threat!

Aire 7

An instrumental showcasing the classical side.

Sing A Mean Tune Kid 3

Features a vicious 5 minute Kath solo.

Questions 67 & 68 1

One of the happiest songs I've ever heard. Just brilliant.

Oh Thank You, Great Spirit 8

One of the last Terry Kath numbers.

The Approaching Storm/Mam vs. Man:The End 3

James Pankow pens this instrumental classic.

Something In This City Changes People 6

Vocal interplay nice here.

Hollywood 6

A gem off of a relatively weaker effort.

Listen 1

Representative of the early rocking side.

Poem For The People 2

More early, idealistic banter....

Lonlieness Is Just A Word 3

A jazzy piece off of their most varied and ambitious record.

What Else Can I Say 3

Cetera with a nice little ditty.

Hideaway 8

Return of the guitar....

Byblos 7

Maybe their most acoustic song, Kath has a personal approach to the vocal.

While The City Sleeps 5

A jazzy number off their most jazz-oriented effort.

Saturday In The Park 5

That being said, an atypical cut from V.

What's this World Coming To? 6

Beats me.

South California Purples 1

Catch the "I Am The Walrus" line and the strong Lamm vocal, and of course the outstanding guitar...Jimi Hendrix was in awe of Kath.

Aint It Blue? 8

Another fiery cut.

Happy Cause I'm Going Home 3

Nice flute solo by Walt Parazidier and great vocal harmonies.

Poem 58 1

Just an excuse for another 5 minute guitar workout.

Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? 1

One of the greatest overplayed songs of all-time.

Song of the Evergreens 7

Seven is my favorite record by Chicago. Here's a good example why.

A Hit By Varese 5

A song that would make Cozy proud!

In The Country 2

I love this song.

Beginnings 1

I love this song more. An all-time song for me, never gets old.

It Better End Soon (Parts 1 & 4) 2

Some may say this about this show...lol. Anyway, a very emotional flute solo, and a Kath vocal to match the intensity. Highly political and supercharged song. Great way to end it.

Be there!
