Y'all can talk about lyrics all you want, but I MUST have that Malmsteen that played on this show. That has got to be one of the top 10 guitar charts ever written.

Yes the Quantum man is right on about the lyrics to Born To Be Wild......

I'm not sure what Malmsteen did later in his career, but after that record he got more mainstream. His big thing in concert was whipping the guitar around his back.

1984 - Rising Force - great cover with the guitar and flames. And on drums, Barriemore Barlow! (I did not notice that until now), and Jens johansson on keys (that I did know, he's with Mastermind now). Should be able to find that. If not, I'll get it to you. Let me know.

That sounds about right. I personally don't think we'd want to do it any more often than that. It's not so much that it's a bad idea, but it does tend to detract from what AM is...

It might be something that someone would have a beef with, but it's certainly nothing to have a cow about, anyway...

I've never looked it up. That was by ear. I think the first time the phrase was used of music was that a British reviewer describe Jimi Hendrix's music as the sound of heavy metal falling from the sky. I heard that from some guy somewhere, don't know it it's true or not, but the timing would be correct - 1968-ish.

When I first started to listen to 60's-70's rock Led Zeppelin was my favorite from that time period. I was told, from a friends older sister very cute btw, that the term HM came from a reporter who made the parallel Led / Lead. This confused me. Led Zeppelin first album was not what I called HM. That was reserved for bands like Judas Priest, Motörhead, Accept, and Scorpions ect…

Be very wary of the music media taking credit for anything. I don't care much for the term myself, I think it's simplistic and narrow.

And I'm pleased you looked that up QJ. I knew it was off a bit too, but it wasn't something I wanted to bandy about. I think we all know that Born To Be Wild had the phrase in it. The rest of the tune's lyrics is irrelevant, especially if they're quoted incorrectly.

Regarding Led Zeppelin, I thought that the story was that a reporter, after hearing their demo's" said "your music will go over (as in "fly") like a lead zeppelin".
