all the talk about popularity reminded me - I went through a stage in the mid-late 70's where I didn't like Pink Floyd, because, get this, they were too popular! I shouldn't have complained...

Von, excellent article. What's the saying, if you want something done right, do it yourself?

I especially like the part about your kids having an appreciation of what you're doing.

Jim, that's so true. We'd bitch and moan about Kansas, Genesis, Styx, not being the bands they used to be. I'm just happy that King Crimson came back. If it weren't for Discipline, I'd have thought the end of prog was at hand with Asia. Now we're back to wanting our bands to be popular.

Thanks Rick!

Originally, the editor had assigned a writer to do the story, but as the deadline approached and it looked like she wasn't going to get the job done, he asked me if I would consider writing it myself. He didn't have to ask twice. Then, he liked it so much he made it the cover story! It was the father's day issue that year so it was quite an homage to my dad... and it was so cool for my kids to have their pictures on the front page. They were mini-celebrities at their schools.

I am definitely blessed to have my two boys...
