I'm off on vacation.

I'm on Vacation on 4th July for 3 weeks.

My wife and I are going to Vancouver, Alaska and the Canadian Rockies.

I was wondering if anyone has recomendations of decent bands I should look out for while we're over there. I ALWAYS visit record stores wherever I go and never feel as if I've had a really good time unless I come home with some new stuff.

Any advice warmly welcome!!!!!

Sorry, can't help with Vancouver.
But I'm heading to Ireland in August. Any suggestions for me?

Canada Rocks!!!!

Just got back from 3 weeks in Canada and Alaska.

Had a great time apart from the fact that my Cameras, MP3 player and undeveloped films were stolen when I got home to Heathrow....Hey Ho!

While I was in Jasper I was introduced to a band called "The Tragically Hip" and bought up most of their back catalogue. Excellent band!!!

Anyone know anything about them?

English Hip

Welcome back! Sorry about the stolen stuff - the world is full of a**holes. I travel very little, but I did go to Ontario for my honeymoon. Canada does indeed rock.

I have three Hip CD's - Road Apples, My Music at Work, Fully Completely, and Day for Night. The latter two are excellent, Road Apples is OK, and Music @ Work is disappointing. It looks like I am missing a few. Let me know of anything other than the above that sounds good.

The music is very basic, dirty, and rock and roll. Geddy Lee has good things to say about them. I never have seen them live, since it is hard to find people who like them enough to see. Combined with time constraints, I have become very selective about shows I see.

The website has a cool feature - the songs alphabetically listed.

Not a prog band by any stretch of the imagination, but a good find!

Thanks Rick.....

Thanks for the sentiment, mate. There are indeed some Bas***ds out there. They can keep the Camera and MP3 player but what use are my holiday photos to anyone but me???

As for The Hip. One album I bought that you didn't mention is "Phantom Power" and it's, I think, their best effort.

Road Apples actually reminded me of Midnight Oil in their "Head Injuries" period. Damn fine band they were/are too. Madman Peter Garret looking like he's having a permanant epileptic fit on stage. I modeled my dancing style on him.

Phantom Power

I'll look into that. Good old Midnight Oil. A "tweener" band like XTC.

I also have "Trouble at the Henhouse", and I think a lot of it. I don't have anything else to compare it to though. I may check out a few of their others now...

studio. it has the one song of their's that got airplay here in San Diego - "Ahead By A Century" - cool song, a bit mellower than is typical for them.

I think you would like "Phantom Power". All the people in the bar of my Hotel thought it was one of their best albums and I have to agree. It's the best of the ones that I bought and I like them all......a lot.
