COTM - #193 - Granada and Jose Cid

Salutations to you all. We are looking to Spain and Portugal this week to find two pioneers of symphonic rock in their respective countries.

The first group this week is Spain's Granada. They formed in the early 70's with their debut album coming in 1975 - Hablo De Una Tierra (I speak of One Land). The group is the brainchild of Carlos Carcamo, who is a multi-instrumentalist. This will be the opening album. Another album of their's will close the show as well. That will be their third, and last, album released in 1978: Valle del Pas. This album has a completely new line-up from their first album and ventures a little more to the folklore of Northern Spain. Both are fine albums rich with the mellotron and synth traditions of symphonic prog.

The anchor of the show is a classic symphonic album from Portugal's Jose Cid. Jose Cid is a composer and singer, and he also produced many works after this period. Jose is known for being in Portugal's 1st Symphonic Prog band, Quarteto 1111. They formed around 1970 and in 1974 had released their Opus: Onde, Quando, Como, Porgue, Cantamos Pessoas Vivas. Jose would leave to the group at this point for a solo career. In 1978 the album 10,000 Anos Depois Entre Venus e Marte (10,000 Years Later Between Venus and Mars). It's a classic concept album.

I do hope you'll join us for this week's episode. You can listen in Friday's @ 9pm e.s.t., or Monday @ 12 noon e.s.t. I hope to see you on the radio.
