Pierre Moerlan R.I.P.
I've just heard that Pierre died in Strasbourg on Monday night.
A great musician. I will always love his work with Gong and Didier Malherbe. Very sad news. |

Bon Voyage Pierre...
I Started with Pierre on the INCANTATIONS lp w/ Mike Oldfield. I was never one for the spacey original Gong. But P.M.'s Gong was percussion innovation. He loved playing TUNED things to Hit. The vibraphone, tubular bells, all fit together in a remarkable and unique sound. 1978's EXPRESSO 2 with Bassist Hanford Rowe broke this drummers new ground w/ Allan Holdsworth on Guitar. Followed by 3 more gems with guests galore. My favorites DOWNWIND & TIME IS THE WAY gave any one with Bongos a way to join in. I loved these LP's, only to find a Live CD 1 year ago. Masterfull player, an original------R.I.P.

A sad day indeed...
I heard the news via G.A.S., yesterday ...
Although I prefer his work with Daevid Allen era Gong - I remember well meeting him during my time in Ents at University. We put on the PMG Gong lineup around the time of Shamal - he was awesome to watch play - if perhaps a little "above himself" in conversation ... He will be missed - by all. There are some tributes here : http://www.planetgong.co.uk from both people he worked with and other fans. There should be an awesome Rythmn section "up there" now ... |
