Re: What CD's Are you Playing RIght Now? Top 5

What Dr. Dot is listening to when he isn't listening to the Moon:
  • Genesis - Foxtrot
For the longest time, I was a Collins era Genesis fan. Then someone grabbed me by the scruff of the neck, sat me down, and said "Shut up and listen." I haven't been the same since.
  • Marillion - Misplaced Childhood
One of the better Fish era Marillion discs, though I have to admit that I like ALL of the Fish era Marillion.
  • Dr. Dot's Musical Extravaganza - The Longs
My own personal compilation CD that I take out whenever I'm going to be doing some serious coding and need some serious coding music -- that music that puts me in the groove and tells everyone that disturbing me would be a good way of losing a finger or perhaps an entire arm. It includes such greats as Grendel (see a theme here?), The Great Nothing, Mundus Incompertus, and Mr Ten Percent. There'd be more, but that's all I could manage to cram on a CD.
  • Dr. Dot's musical extravaganza, The Shorts
This consists of shorter classics that give me the same mode that the longs do, only with shorter tracks. This includes Utopia Theme, Peter Gabriel's Blood of Eden and Biko (both of which get me right HERE<-, if'n ya know what I mean, and I think you do). The Bash by Dixie Dregs (that one still makes me dig out the ol' Rebel flag and start screaming for Yankee blood), A couple of the 7/8 tracks from Iluvatar's Children CD, Genesis' Driving the Last Spike and Domino (both Collins era Genesis that I categorically refuse to give up), Supper's Ready from Foxtrot, and Karn Evil #9, first movement (as they had intended, not hacked up) and Hocus Pocus by Focus.
  • The Tide Turns by Blezqi Zatsaz

Radio Mortis reports:

Salem Hill fight a hard battle with Kate Bush for CD of the year but with Glass Hammer still out in front, but will they hold out? Riverside and Djam karet look on from the sidelines after giving up.

Re: What CD's Are you Playing RIght Now? Top 5

Some CD's you're mentioning guys are not from 2005 (especially in your post York, but maybe you meant CD's heard by you this year).

And hey, don't give away all before the show guys
If more and more ppl post their votes here you'll clearly see what are the favourites. Don't you want keeping in suspense and tension growing in January?

This isn't about top cds of 2005, rather what are you listening to currently. So those are teh #1 cds for york in terms of what's he's played this year.

Re: What CD's Are you Playing RIght Now? Top 5

CDs mainly get listened to in my car; elsewhere I just put iTunes on random song rotation. So, here's what I've got in my car, listed more-or-less in order of preference:

IQ, Subterranea
Hourglass, Subconscious
Sylvan, Artifical Paradise
Pallas, The Dreams of Men
Shadow Gallery, Room V (I keep wondering what's 'prog' about these guys; concept albums and lyrical gymnastics are all I can come up with, as their music seems pretty straight-ahead to me)

Re: What CD's Are you Playing RIght Now? Top 5

OK, OK...........the exitement is flowing through me like....uh?.......Hot Chocolate syrup over vanilla ice cream..........wait, I'll be back..........OK, I'm really not sure of the dates, they're ALL new to me. Wojtek, from what I see of your likes, we have much to agree over. I've been getting reco's from many, so I'll post my other top 5T.
Neal Morse: ?
Neal Morse: One
Flower King's: Unfold the Future
Transatlantic:....?.....Can't remember titles....2 similar covers....one with Portnoy on drums.
Porcupine Tree: A Whole bunch of them
I have to say, that I have a rotation of these and the other CD's that I play in my truck and at my desk...........ALL DAY!!! Very Inspiring
OOPS!! I just ordered 2 CD's by Andromeda and from what I heard of them..............again..........MORE # 1's
I really must stop these purchases and I will. I got all this new music and now I've got to get tired of it...........won't likely happen

My 5 + 1

Not exactly top albums or anything, but right now (today/tonight), I'm
listening to the following stuff:

- Kingston Wall: III Tri - Logy
The last album KW ever made. More electronic than the other two albums. Usually considered a little bit odd.

- Massive Attack: Mezzanine
Definitely not prog. rock and pretty commercial after all; but MA has actually released some interesting stuff, especially on their recent 100th Window album.

They even have one piece on the playlist here.

- Santana: Santana III
Santana was probably one of the very first bands I've ever liked. My father had Abraxas, III, and the Carlos & Buddy Miles live album as LPs, so I got to hear them pretty often as a kid. All three are pretty nice. The very first album by the band, on the other hand, is weaker.

- Tabula Rasa: Tabula Rasa
A prog. rock classic, in Finland.

- Weather Report: Black Market
Nothing much to say about this right now. I've heard more interesting albums (such as Heavy Weather), but perhaps I'll learn to appreciate this more in the future...

- Plus one typical goatrance/psytrance (electronic dance music) collection I bought 3-4 years ago...

-Methem

I've been reluctant to buy Morse's post-Spock's Beard stuff due to what I understand is substantial Christian content. (A girlfriend once described me as "the least spiritual person she knew".) How are they?

Re: What CD's Are you Playing RIght Now? Top 5

Just purchased from Kinesis this week:

Riverside - Second Life Syndrome
Indukti - S.U.S.A.R.
Ten Jinn - As On a Darkling Plain
Farpoint - From Dreaming to dreaming
Farpoint - First Light

I will post a review after I have listened to all of them, but the Indukti is very good. If you like Riverside you might want to check them out.
