An Idea For A New Show

For some time I have an idea for a show in my mind which was already discussed with Dr Dot and Jim shortly in white a couple of month ago, but forgotten afterwards.

We are all wide spread over the globe and have in the world of progressive rock our preferences. Whay don't we let the other moonies know our personal favorites.

My idea is to have a show, in which every moonie who wants, makes one (only one) show presenting to the rest of the world his personal favorites. I am thinking about a show with a duration of 3 hours, which could be aired once a month (to make it a special one, as for each individual it will be only one show), and, to make it a special event. I am sure, the moonie, which show is on the air, will be present in white to share his personal remembrance to one song or another.

Of course, the songs played should preferable not (yet) be on the moon, although this would be difficult and not limited to prog only. Also a pop, rock, even classic could be in there as it is a personal favorite show.

Well, this is my idea. I am curious about your comments, specially from Jim and Dr Dot.

I love that idea, lotus. We had something like that last year at the Moon Birthday Party. Some people took a slot of time and put something together, and Avian took care of the upload and coordination side.

Great fun.

I think that's nice idea Lotus although I don't know if workable. Programming may be time-consuming.

If we are in the topic of shows:
I may have occassion to have two live shows in Cracow radio stations. But:
- for first I have to find idea (and tracks) for show linking jazz and prog. I can't find the plane that could be good for such links. My friend arranged a show "How jazz bands play radiohead" but I don't have ideas.
- the second is "Leitmotif of death in prog". Do you know any prog tracks connected with death. I have found a few but I need more.
I'd be grateful if you could help.

And for Top2005 Show I am fixing us up with automatic poll machine system. We may have also some extras, including interviews. So expect bigger party this year

Sounds familiar.

As to the original idea, I think it is an interesting one that could at least be given a trial run. The problem stems from access to the station. Probably the best solution is that if you want to play something not on the AM playlist, to get some of those with access to the station to help you out.

Woohoo! Of course, I would LOVE to do a slot if this were to happen! We might have to get Jim pretty drunk to talk him into it!

It's been a little over ten years now, but I did do a couple of years as a DJ at the University station here. The "alternative" scene was VERY alive, and the statton was very open-minded. Then, a new student program director walked in and single-handedly NUKED the station. Practically turned it into a ClownChannel station overnight...

Anywho, I have a large LP collection that starts at "Court of the CK" that's chocked full of good stuff!

So, Jim, can I buy yo a beer or six sometime??

Thank you for your comments.

To Woj:
It was the biggest argument from Dr Dot against such a show, that is is very time consuming programming ist

To Sharc
You maybe right. 3 hours is a long time. Could be 2 hours. This would be enough to give an idea of ones favs.

ProgDirJims oppinion is still missing. So I think he is not very enthusiastic about it....

progdirjim is very busy these days. I'm not opposed to the idea, but Dot and I will have to figure out some logistics.

stay tuned...

Assuming this comes to fuition, I'd be willing to take the playlists and put them up for these shows. If there's some unique track on the moon, I'd accept users logging into my machines to upload and I could then upload to the moon. Of course, there is the issue of the actual possession of the original material... I'll leave the RIAA appeasement logistics up to Jim.

I'm always around... 'cept when I'm not (which is typically for some gig).

Sometimes my timeslot can be used if I'm not doing a show that week.

It might be a better use for your timeslot even when it is in use!

See you in 2 days...

Agreed, but as long as you are just as vociferous when the content is of your liking!

You must work on this "management by exception" thing you have ingrained vax....

Final thoughts.......

It seem to me that something 1 or 2 hours per Moonie is more than enough time for anyone to show off his Prog preferances.
The Main problem would be clearance of titles the Moon does not have.......The physical workings could be as simple as the Moonie burnings his playlist to a 1cent disc, and mailing it (a couple bucks, big deal) to Management to .......manage
How about MINI-MOONIE showcases

I thought Space Debris for a title for this show, if it ever comes to fuition.

Re: Re: Final thoughts.......

Actually, I thought Vax might be able to host this show using 3 one hour discs per show( maybe 2 @90 min), using submited burns as the base we would have no liners and someone would have to do the DJing. AS for a show title, these classic and best of discs would hardly be "debris"
LUNAR LANDINGS,...MOONROCKS,... or .VAXTRACKS, take on that one Bri.
How about LOTUS BLOSSOMS, lets not forget the creator

Why have I missed this thread?

Good idea Lotus - I'm in on it anytime and have plenty of material not on the moon to please some and to anger others.

But I would think a 2 hour show is long enough and keep it to once a month.

It gets my full support - Call it Space Junk - Vax -

The idea to send burned CD to Vax or whomeever is not bad, but I would prefer that the Moonie presenting the show does the DJing as well. It should be possible to send a CD with the MP3's, with the voice sections in between, renaming the track in 01,02 03 (Voice1) 04,05,06 (Voice etc...).

And I agree with the majority of you, 2 hours should be fair, and the idea of Rogor of having it once a month sounds very good.

And I like the idea for the name....

I said debris: an accumulation of a relatively large rock fragments

Some comments from the peanut gallery

Not a bad thread. Hell, not a bad idea, actually. There are a few things, however:

I'd like to keep this, from a logistical standpoint, to stuff that's already on the Moon. It'd be a lot easier to keep the RIAA happier about such things (and keeping them happy is a lifelong obsession of mine ).

As Jim said, we'll have to get together and discuss logistics.

Monthly would probably be OK, and 2-3 hours, likely at user's discretion, should be plenty.

And let's try not to have a Don Cab-athon or All Your Favorite GY!BE shows, k?

Roger -Dot- Lee, kthxbye!
