That would mean the moon would go down.

My cluster has been incarnate since October of 1998. I will not jeopardize that record.

Hell, it's been friggin' cold in San Diego this year. I have first hand evidence that global warming is a myth. I think I'll crank my heater AND air conditioner in the house and let them battle it out!

OMG! Enemas in the dark!

Oh, sorry, you said enemies not enemas! Neither would be very pleasant!

Wonder if Al Gore's personal jet will be grounded during this period of time?

Back to the topic...

The idea about saving earths limited resources is cool, but I dont think this is the best way to do that. If people really would like to do something about it, they should aplly preassure on governments, huge companies etc. However as long as money does the talking, protecting environment will be subsided.

Some time ago the lights of Eiffel Tower were shut off for five minutes for the sake of taking care of our homeplanet. I found that five minutes was kinda ridiculous... like what difference does it make. (And yes i know it was a symbolic act but I prefer straight action)

Just a quick thought there

Edit: Oh yeah, and instead of making these "blackouts" once a year you can save lots of more electricity/oil/money etc. by changing some nasty habits.

Well, the energy we save has to go somewhere, so I predict a rise in the number of births in December of this year.

Trouble in paradise!

My brother-in law tried to tell me that global warming was a myth. I wonder if he knows about the ice seven times the size of Manhattan that fell off in Antarctica...

I wonder if you know about the earthquake of almost 6 Richter that dislodged that ice shelf? Nah, it's easier to believe that a fraction of a degree off of the average caused it to melt away.

There are always earthquakes there and I'm inclined to believe that's the reason. But no article I read mentioned that as a cause. It was pretty compelling evidence about warming.

The topic: It seems these Earth Days and other gestures are done by people who already get it with regard to the environment. You'll never convince the polluters (individuals and businesses) to stop. You can force them, economically and otherwise, but turning everything off ,while a noble idea, may be just that.

Ask M, I complain about this daily...

The roads of the proNJ are brought to a standstill each morning while people commute into NYC to sit corralled in their micro-cubicles of dominion under old-style management task masters to type away on computers (selling stock and bond, managing other people's money, and other computer based tasks). I believe these types would get much more accomplished by tele-commuting. One, less use of the auto and less pollution. Two, they'd be less stressed out from the commute. The average commuter spends 1.5 hours each way in the proNJ. That's three hours of life lost each day!

People need to rethink how things have been done in the past!

Trust me, I'd have a motorcycle or a moped to get around. Saves alot of gas. However, thanks to a proNJ driver, 34 broken bones, permanent scarring and disfiguration, and constant pain, I can't see myself back atop a motorcycle anywhere in the NE of the US... it's road are just too congested with idiots behind the wheel.

Re: Earth Hour Turn Everything Off For An Hour Or So

I heard the original plan was to turn all LIGHTS off, not everything. (PHEW, VAX 's record is safe!) But evening at 8? Doesn't seem like it would have the same impact as during a business day. I heard Atlanta was a "flagship" city for this effort. BTW, my lights are going off - hey IT IS the EARTH ! we are talking about here. I love this place we are in ...
