COTM - #144 - Encore of Show #48 - King Crimson

Hello my friends.

I have been vacating in the hills of Eastern Tennessee this past week so I am presenting an encore playback of Show #48. appropriately it is from the same time period that has been the focus of our shows this year.

I do hope you enjoy the encore.

Greetings Mooniversians!

[NOTE: Considering the weather lately this opening seemed appropriate - hope you are all safe and with power. OHD]

Since the weather has Marched in like a Lion here in the states, I thought we should do so musically as well. And what better way is there that joining King Crimson at the time of their history where their hard sound was coming together and peaking. Unfortunately, that was just before the first of several break-ups and hiatus. I am referring to 1972-1974.

This time period was that of the third line-up of King Crimson. I was it's biggest line-up change as well. The house was swept clean by Robert Fripp in 1972 and he started over with the quintet of himself, percussionists Jamie Muir and Bill Bruford, bassist and vocalist John Wetton, and violinist David Cross. They would go on to produce several of their biggest selling records, and the best critically acclaimed albums. 1972 brought us the initial touring of this line-up and the foundations of Larks Tongues In Aspic were written. The Album was released in early 1973.

There were extensive tours over the next year and Jamie Muir had some personal or spiritual crisis and left the group, leaving it a Quartet. The group finished out the year continuing with touring and laid out the material for the next album, Starless and Bible Black. This was released in January of 1974. The remainder of the years was quite interesting, ending in the release of Red and the first long term hiatus for the group.

For the Program I will play the Live album released in 1997 but was taken from the live recordings that were the source of Starless and Bible Black. This covers Larks' Tongues In Aspic and Starless and Bible Black. I'll close out the show with Red.

R O A R

I hope to see you on the Moon.

Dale
