Rush

I looked on the net for an hour and could only come up with this:
(I must be as bored as Yesspaz and his polls)

Atlantic/Anthem recording group Rush <http://www.atlantic-records.com/rush> has completed recording tracks for their highly anticipated new album. The legendary power trio - Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neal Peart - recently wrapped up recording sessions in Toronto, and are now in the midst of mixing. The album - which is being produced by Rush with engineer Paul Northfield (Marilyn Manson, Hole) - is the Canadian band's 17th studio recording, and their first all-new collection in over 5 years. The as-yet-untitled set is currently slated for an early spring release.

My sister is a huge Rush freak and knows the exact date. I'll try and post it up tonight.

Yeah, it looks as if May 14th is just the rumored date, nothing firm yet.... It will be very interesting to hear what they have put together after the long time apart.

new stuff

Yeah, Yespazz, that is the track that caught my eye too. I just hope that the songs aren't as pop-prog as on the last CD. When you hear Geddy Lee's solo album and you compare it to Alex Lifeson's, you can see that Geddy had more influence. I wish it was the other way around. The songs are beginning to sound too much alike and sort of "cute and coy". This is pretty harsh coming from one of their biggest fans.

I also hope that they have a new instrumental track. Anyone hear ahything about this?

Test for Echo and stuff

Yeah, Test for Echo was a pop-prog album, and it is one of the weaker Rush efforts. In saying that, it has two of their most kicking songs ever - "Driven" and "Time and Motion." As for solo albums, I didn't even know that Lifeson had one. I haven't ever heard Lee's except for the single, but I recently won a copy from eBay and haven't recieved it yet.

Victor

Lifeson's solo effort is called Victor. Some interesting stuff on it and many are very different from Rush. I think it would surprise you. Les Claypool from Primus plays on one very strange track.

Now that sounds like a lot of fun...

I recieved MY FAVORITE HEADACHE today and it sounds similar to TEST FOR ECHO, but it also sounds completely different too. It's pretty good. Maybe add to AM?

listening party

Hey progdirJim and Avian, think we could have an on-line listening party when this album is released? that would be a good promo for the station and a good chance to get a lot of listeners at one time and maybe even kick off some sort of chat function. Just an idea.

Cool North American Tour dates

I've scored tickets for the July 14th show in NJ. I'll post a review after the show. Anybody else plan on seeing them this go around?

Rush tour

Yeah, I plan to see them when they make their way to Montreal. Haven't missed a Rush show since 1978.

By the way, I heard a brief interview with Alex Lifeson. One of the more interesting things that he said was that the only CD that he bought last year was Tool's Lateralus and the only concert that he saw was also Tool. Didn't realize that he was such a Tool fan.

By the way Spaz, One Little Victory is growing on me. Still pop-prog though. :-)

nothing wrong with pop-prog

There's nothing wrong with pop-prog Zvin. I'm not a big fan of pop, but mix it with prog, and I'm ok. After all, prog is basically the mixing of rock with classical, or with jazz, or with world, or with fill-in-the-blank, so why not pop (now, just mixing rock with pop gets you pop-rock - yech! But mix prog with pop, and I can dig it.)

If interested, here are some good pop-prog artists (these are not music suggestions for the station per se, due to the popiness, but if anyone is interested...)

Kevin Max - Stereotype Be
Fleming and John - The Way We Are
Fleming and John - Delusions of Granduer

Thumbs up Git it!

I picked up Vapor Trails and have listened it in the car for 6 plays. Its actually pretty good. The boys are definately rocking with plenty time changes to satisfy prog-rock fans. Freeze is currently my favourite. Would love to hear what other prog-rock fans think.

I like it...

It's definitely the busiest I've ever heard them. I like it. My favorite track by far is Secret Touch, with Ceiling Unlimited second. I have a friend who is a major musician, studied at Berkley, blah blah blah, and he just loves how Peart is "playing a 2 on his ride bell against a 3" in the title track. Translation: The song (part of it) is in 3, but while the whole band is jamming in 3, Peart is riding a cybal in 2 at the same time. That's right, he's playing in two time signatures by himself at the same time. Dang.
