A fateful encounter
Dear all Moonies,
About 10 years ago I sometimes watched TV program of progrock. The program gave a song to my ear. I'm very amazed with the heavy and wonderful sound of the song. But...but, too badly, I was so disappointed the program didn't let me know the song's title. A few days ago I could get an album. Here is the AMAZING song for me. This is a fateful encounter! Yes, I could get to know the title of the song when I heard AM several days before. At the moment I shouted "Thanks Aural Moon!" Anyway the AMAZING song is "Another Night" by Camel, included on "Moon Madness". Have you had an experience like me? Thanks.

Re: A fateful encounter
Not exactly prog, but I alway liked the song "Last Chance" by Shooting Star. It was one of those songs that used to pop up on the radio, that I would never own but would hear every year or so. (Others in that vein are "Another Park Another Sunday" by the Doobies, or the occasional odd 70's hit like Pilot's "Magic"). Over time, the radio formats became more constricted and these rare gems were weeded out.
Chris (Teerminator) made a recommendation a couple of years ago to me about that song. What a surprise out of the blue...thanks Chris - and thanks D for the thread... |

Re: A fateful encounter
To quote R&R: "not exactly progessive" (but maybe it was?).
Despite growing up with a classical background, I'd heard snippets of a passionate & powerful piece of choral work, in commercials, movies, etc. It took a while to peg it, but I found it was the first/last movement of Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, entitled "O Fortuna". It still is a masterpiece in my book. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEHO1iSjnSc (old & grainy but moving classical version) TSO also does a fantastic version (excuse the phone video): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hX1m39N2yM Lyrics: http://www-astro.physics.ox.ac.uk/~r...yr.html#track1

Re: A fateful encounter
Though it is not a story of prog rock
I am still a story when I am a school child. My mother bought me the radio. It was an event very excited for me. English was not able to be understood for me though the tune in the 80's at that time became popular. ...listening... very wonderful those tunes in me however I remembered only the melody though who was performing was not understood. Time flowed and I listened to the tune on the radio again. It was "I.G.Y" of donald fagen. Ah it misses it. |

Re: A fateful encounter
Thanks Kazu.
You'll discover and understand that every Moonie's gonna let us know many kinds of progrock on Aural Moon. I appreciate all Moonies.

Re: A fateful encounter
This happens to me all the time with classical music, to name a few: The Desert Music by Steve Reich, Adjustable Wrench by Michael Torke or Tabula Rasa by Arvo Pärt. There's a bunch more I haven't found yet. I usually listen to classical music on the radio in my car and a lot of times I hear something cool, but don't drive long enough to find out who it was, or forget the name if I do hear it.
Happened with a video once also, I saw a video on TV in Chicago (in the mid 1980s I think) of a concert with Joni Mitchell, Pat Metheny, Lyle Mays, Jaco Pastorius, Michael Brecker and Don Alias, took several years, but I eventually found the Shadows & Light CD and then the DVD later. Prior to seeing that on TV I never knew that lineup played together. |

Re: A fateful encounter
Exactly, it can be happened commonly that we often listen to the phrase or the parts of classical music but can't get the title or the information.
In that case, regretfully, we might give up for getting them. I suggest I would be very glad at finding the details of my favorite classical music occationally. I appreciate your story of a fateful encounter, jtm.
