Chat Get Together

Wouldn't it be nice to get together once a week in the chat room (now fixed), spin some tunes and meet other listeners?

What day of the week would work for you? Wednesday nights (U.S.)?

Avian

Avian-

It doesn't work for me. I'm running Netscape on Windows XP Pro using a DSL connection. I continue to get a Java conflict. Maybe Macheads can chat.

Would love to chat....

Any suggestions are welcome

Hmm - I was able to connect with Win 2000 and Win XP just fine with IE - have you tried it with IE yet? What version of Netscape are you using?

No go. I tried IE 6.0. It tells me your chats are java-based. Unless there is a patch, IE is is incompatible with Java. That is why there was a huge legal battle between Sunsoft and Microsoft. Sunsoft refused to give Microsoft their code.

What about downloading Java from Sun?

http://java.sun.com/getjava/

Don't know if XP is supported, but Win2000 is.

IE 6.0 incompatible with Java - no way. The chat program works great under IE 6 and IE5.5 with Win 2000 and Win XP Pro (I have both here). I haven't installed any aditional patches, except for the standard service packs. Windows comes with its own version of a java runtime engine (Virtual Machine) - never had any problems running java applets under Windows.

Avian,

Perhaps this link could shed some light on this issue. It appears that the Microsoft VM has been removed from the current XP service pack 1a:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813926

But I suppose the service back does not remove the VM of the default XP install, so as you say, it should work.

Aha - a result of this recent spat with Sun no doubt.

Win 2000 should work for sure, no matter what SP you have installed.

I'm sure you can download the Virtual Machine from microsoft too, install it, and you should be good to go.

Isn't the chat an IRC channel?

Couldn't you just skip the javaprogram altogether and connect from an easy to use IRC-client like mIRC instead?

www.mirc.com

Just install, and write
/server irc.dal.net
then
/join #aural.moon

You're set.

Sure is - but many people get very confused with IRC software. It's so much easier for the average computer user to point and click.
