Hatfield and the North.
Seems like there's been a lot of interest in the Canterbury scene with listeners recently.
Loads of requests for Camel, Caravan, Soft Machine and the like. also Tangent's "Tribute" has been getting played a lot. Was wondering if you could lay your hands on "Hatfield and the North" and/or "Rotters Club". Rotters Club would be good, especially the track 'Mumps'. Sums up the whole scene beautifully with great guitar, keyboard and wind work. Backing vocals that will make you smile and the superb voice of Richard Sinclair making for a very joyous listen. |

I've heard a few Hatfield tracks here and there. I like it. That's all I can say...

What?? Hatfield is not in the database?? They are a must!
Oh, I see there's one song. No, that won't do at all. My vote would be for the first album over Rotter's Club, but they're both good.

Hatfield is a known hole in the playlist. I keep forgetting to pick some of their stuff up - thanks for the reminder. I just bought a bunch of other stuff, so it may be a few weeks, but we'll get some.

Hatfield & the North's Rotter's Club is on the very top of the Gnosis 2000 list.
Rating: 13.33 / 15 I love Canterbury, love HatN, love Rotter's Club but ... the best??? Hmmm.

To pick a best Canterbury band/album/track would be nigh on impossible. There are SO many to choose from and I wouldn't even try quite frankly. I do think that Tangents' 8 minute Canterbury "tribute" is a real joy. |

Name trivia - only for those interested....
Do you know where "Hatfield and the North" comes from?
It's the sign at the entrance to the M1 leaving London; England's first "freeway" and still possibly one of the busiest road junctions in the country. |

The best Canterbury?
If I had to make a choice, it would be for "Squarer For Maude". It's a great piece. Speaking of that, the Greaves Blegvad album "Kew Rhone" has plenty of good stuff for the play list, too.
