Re: DRH.028 - We Didn't Know the Future

Thank you for playing my/our song. I love your show, but can usually only listen on Friday morning - I'll definitely be listening this week!
My current band is just about to release an album - this is the final version:

If you're interested...(or if you think anybody else might be).

The Wednesday crowd was digging it man. It's a great tune. Have you ever thought of sending Jim all your stuff? I think it'd fit right in.

Spaz - I always catch the show either Wednesday or Friday. However, last week I had to miss both days. I'm curious how the Tool went over with the shout folks?

On monday it was just me complaining about the double negation; "why can't we not" in the lyrics

1. Magpie, have you considered sending in some music?

2. MM, some Wednesday night were liking it musically.

3. I myself love Tool's music but can't take them lyrically (same with RATM).

Yes... But my collection is 99% prog, and 98% of it I bought because I heard it on AM...

I'm generally not a "lyrics" guy in the fact that I consider good lyrics as a bonus, and do not let bad lyrics ruin a song for me (there are exceptions). However, I think the lyrics of Tool are maligned somewhat. I love the lyrics to the song Lateralus for instance:

Black then white are all I see in my infancy.
red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
lets me see.
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn beyond the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
Withering my intuition, missing opportunities and I must
Feed my will to feel my moment drawing way outside the lines.

Black then white are all I see in my infancy.
red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
lets me see there is so much more
and beckons me to look through to these infinite possibilities.
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn outside the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
Withering my intuition leaving all these opportunities behind.

Feed my will to feel this moment urging me to cross the line.
Reaching out to embrace the random.
Reaching out to embrace whatever may come.

I embrace my desire to
feel the rhythm, to feel connected
enough to step aside and weep like a widow
to feel inspired, to fathom the power,
to witness the beauty, to bathe in the fountain,
to swing on the spiral
of our divinity and still be a human.

With my feet upon the ground I lose myself
between the sounds and open wide to suck it in,
I feel it move across my skin.
I'm reaching up and reaching out,
I'm reaching for the random or what ever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.

Spiral out. Keep going, going...

Thanks for the support, Yesspaz. I'll contact Jim and see what he thinks and what the process is. Most of this material is not available on the likes of amazon et. al...

Ahh... Now I can see more clearly.. I became a snob after listening only to Genesis, Pink Floyd och Marillion for over 5 years before I found Aural Moon...

May as well admit to having enjoyed quite a bit of The Cure in that period.

On the Tool subject. the thing is that I was actually about to buy 2 albums to try them out, but on second thought I checked them out on youtube first. I got the impression that they were possibly too repetitive for me... And the "8-bit versions" was as good as the original :-P

Sober is quite nice I guess, but I checked a version "with lyrics" on YT and just got stuck on that line mentioned above, and that was the end of it for me then...

Anyhow. I will give Lateralus a few "spins"...
