The Return of the Lazy Ass DRH

This Tuesday (June 14) I will be pinch hitting for Spaz with another (can you believe it, the 15th time!) Lazy Ass DRH. I knew the day would come when Spaz (who has a real life) would want a backup, so I've been putting this together for a little while. Roughly speaking, it progresses from mellow to rocking, but it's a winding road.

John Klemmer - Touch (remind me to talk about the "If you can/can't" mixtapes )
Oscar Peterson - Nightingale
Fiona Apple - Left Alone
Ani DiFranco - Untouchable Face (perhaps the best ever song about unrequited love - another post with lyrics to follow)
Sneaker Pimps - 6 Underground
Public Image Ltd - Rise
The War On Drugs - Under The Pressure
Bad Company - Seagull (prepare for a pleasant surprise if you don't know the song)
The Tragically Hip - Ahead By A Century
A Flock Of Seagulls - Space Age Love Song
CSNY - Wooden Ships
Howard Jones - Natural
Ben Folds - Annie Waits
New Pornographers - Twin Cinema
Sinead O'Connor - Mandinka
Cage The Elephant - No Rest For The Wicked (one of my favorite non-prog bands operating today)
The Breeders - Divine Hammer
Spin Doctors - How Could You Want Him (When You Know You Could Have Me)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Zero
!!! - Myth Takes (sha sha sha, sha sha shadoobie )
Mighty Mighty Bosstones - The Impression That I Get
Les Dudek - Down To Nothing
White Stripes - My Doorbell
Benjamin Booker - Violent Shiver
Soul Asylum - Somebody To Shove

Re: The Return of the Lazy Ass DRH

Untouchable Face by Ani DiFranco - what a song. Great lyrics, and the gentle intensity of the "fuck you"s - I am willing to bet she lived that.

excerpted:
To tell you the truth I prefer the worst of you
Too bad you had to have a better half
She's not really my type
But I think you two are forever
And I hate to say it
But you're perfect together

So fuck you, and your untouchable face, and
Fuck you, for existing in the first place
And who am I, that I should be vying for your touch
And who am I, I bet you can't even tell me that much

and the imagery:
2:30 in the morning, my gas tank will be empty soon
Neon sign on the horizon, rubbing elbows with the moon
Safe haven of the sleepless, where the deep fryer is always on
Radio is counting down top 20 country songs
And out on the porch a flystrip is waving like a flag in the wind
You know I don't look forward to seeing you again
You'll look like a photograph of yourself
Taken from far far away
I won't know what to do, I won't know what to say, except
Fuck you...

pure genius
