COTM - #140 - Brian Auger & Murple

Greetings Friends. I continue with albums that turn 40 years old this year.

The lead off album is from organist Brian Auger and his group Oblivion Express. The Album is Straight Ahead. It was the first one of his I heard as a whole (as opposed to tracks I heard on the radio). The blend of blues, jazz and rock were just what I seem to like. A great classic.

The 2nd feature group is what used to be the one-hit wonder from Italy, Murple. I say 'used to be' because they reunited 35 years later and soon released a 2nd album in 2009. Io Sono Murple is the title of the original 1974 album. Like many progressive artists they wrote a concept album. They also released it as two long tracks. A majestic Opus. The subject of this conceptual Opus is a Penguin named Murple. (Now, if that's not taking on the world's troubles I don't know what is.) This is an amazing album and if you do not have it in your collection, you should.

The third feature today is a little something I've put together. Reminiscing about 1974 so much I find so much music I love from that year and era that you can't quite classify as Prog, but I sure feel they were progressive artists. (OH NO, not the what is prog can of worms! EEK!) Okay, let's just call it Dales 1974 playlist of other music happening around the same time. (but I bet you have several of these artists and/or albums).

This playlist is various artists that I'm not go to list (just yet) just to see if how good your musical history skills are. I'll post them later after the 2nd broadcasting on Monday. I do hope you enjoy my picks.

Have a great week and we'll see you on the radio.
