Tribute bands.
What's everyones thoughts on Tribute Bands?
There are a number of good tribute bands out gigging. a few that spring to mind are: Regenesis - Heard them recently play the whole of the Lamb album complete with original slide show and lights. Really good gig. I took my wife along and she thought it was like a HUGE musical therapy session with all these 40something guys singing along to EVERY track........I WAS Rael for a couple of hours so maybe she was right. Fragile - Very good Yes covers band. Their album is worth a listen as they add their own arrangements to the songs without drifting too far from the originals. The Muffin Men - Great Zappa type band. Anyone know of any others worth checking out? Last edited by KeithieW : 03-20-2003 at 04:10 PM. |

Ooooh Genesis
Yes, both Re-Genesis and The Musical Box have had me salivating at the prospect of seeing recreated Genesis shows. But for them, it's totally different than just being a tribute band. When they take the stage, they ARE Genesis. I just wish either of them were easier to go see. I'd kill for one of the lamb performances.
Honestly, I briefly considered flying out east to go see The Musical Box on their latest Foxtrot/Selling England tour. It might even make an interesting show, but I can't see flying out by myself for just one show. Shazbot! Tommy |

The Musical Box
I'm finally going to get the chance to see The Musical Box in Philly in a couple of weeks, and I can't wait! So, having never seen Genesis with P.G., I hope to do a little bit of "time traveling"

They're certainly not a "tribute band" in the usual sense, but I've really enjoyed Genesis for Two Grand Pianos and am looking forward to their second release.
The pianos isolate and articulate every note for me. When I then listen to the originals, I hear things in the music that I'd never noticed, or never quite been able to "piece together" before because it was buried in a blur of other sounds, or obscured by limitations of 1970s recording technology. There are a half-dozen passages here and there, mostly those containing sustained notes, that don't tranlsate very well on piano, but most of it works well. But more than just a way to analyze and re-experience the original music, it's good listening in its own right. It's in my car's CD changer almost all the time. I'd really like to see this album added to AM.

I've been seriously considering "...two pianos" anyway, so next time I buy some discs I'll try to include it.

Maybe for people who lives in US or UK (and is old enough), could be just a copy, but for people like me (from Lima - Perú), who never had the chance to see Genesis with Gabriel, TMB was a great experience.
I saw them last year, and was the closest experience to a real Genesis concert, because I saw Genesis in the Invissible Touch Tour and was terrible. Iván |
