Mehldau really surprises me with this album; as you said JIM it fits here.
He is a well known jazz player and also he has recorded with most of the well known jazz players around,,to me what makes a big difference among them, when you hear them, it is their background. Mehldau is not a guy with a purist background ,,, without doubt. I donated time time ago another nice example of Mehldau musical variety ,,his duo with Mark Guiliana. Only keyboards and drums. Metheny/Mehldau albums also were nice,,not visit them often but bvery good. His classical side also is very nice to hear.
