Keith - Due to our lack of knowledge,

Just a wild hair
if 1-4) Tull to Iommi to Sabbath to Wakeman, and
6-11) Atomic Rooster to Crane to Brown to Hawkwind to Lemmy to Motorhead Then is 5 Carl Palmer or Dave Gilmour? I can't get the direct link from either of those two cats to Wakeman! Aughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! |

I'm done
This is it. This is my final guess, and I'm not guessing anymore! Damnit Keith! Good question!
I bypassed Vincent Crane - 1) Tull 2) Iommi 3) Sabbath 4) Wakeman 5) David Paton 6) Alan Parsons Project 7) Alan Parsons 8) Arthur Brown 9) Hawkwind 10) Lemmy 11) Motorhead |

I'll give it to you..........
I think an easier route would have been.
1) Tull 2) Iommi 3) Sabbath 4) Ozzy Osbourne 5) Bernie Torme 6) Atomic Rooster 7) Vine Crane/Carl Palmer 8) Arthur Brown 9) Hawkwind 10) Lemmy 11) Motorhead. Take it away Links Meister Rick........... |

Mel Torme?
Aah, Bernie Torme, not the Velvet Fog!
Give me a few days - I think I may move towards the prog on the next one (although I have long argued that Sabbath was indeed metal blues prog). |

For Genesis fans
A numerical quiz.......................................
The following 9 numbers are mentioned in what Genesis songs? 2 7 10-4 11 (Eleventh Earl of Mar does not count) 17 500 666 1,000 50,000 The songs are on the following 9 albums: Wind & Wuthering, Abacab, Genesis to Revelation, Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England BTP, Lamb, A Trick of the Tail, And Then There Were Three. Hint: Once an album is used, that's it (one per album). Good luck, although you may not need it! |

The Conqueror - 500 (little women)
SevenStones - 7 (stones)--This one probably shouldn't count either, but I didn't make the rules Supper's Ready - 666 (no longer the law) The Battle of Epping Forest - 10-4 (the accountants' score) Counting Out Time - 11 (there's heaven or hell in it) Mad Man Moon - 1000 (mirages) One For The Vine - 50,000 (men sent to do the will of 1) Deep In The Motherlode - 17 (years not over a day) Dodo/Lurker - 2 (eyes looked to see what I was) Very neat question.

Whoa!
Well done, my fellow Maiden freak.
I had a different song in mind for 1,000 (Trick) - Ripples (face that launched a thousand ships) - I'll take your word for it on Mad Man Moon. Seven stones was intentional. Hey, I'm an accountant, I like numbers! Let's see what you got! |

not sure, being overseas, that you have seen this old game show, but it looks like Powerslave has stolen the center square - it's now your turn to block!

an interesting relationship
I haven't been able to even attempt an answer at any of the "link this band to this other guy" type questions, but I was able to come up with an interesting connection after a little research. Note: this will not be a totally prog chain--you will need to venture into other genres to get the answer.
Link: Genesis to Chuck Berry Genesis (person) (band) (person) (band) (person) Chuck Berry Good Luck! A hint may be provided if this proves too hard.

Sitting this one out
This is interesting. Two prominent names come to mind with Chuck Berry - Johnny Johnson and Willie Dixon. Now they both have ding-a-lings, and Chuck sang about his....no that's not it.
Zeppelin covered some Willie Dixon songs, and then Jimmy Page with the Yardbirds or Tom Jones, and John Paul Jones with Eno or Gabriel or REM or McCartney - you could drive yourself crazy. Using the Wilie Dixon link, I can go backwards Berry, Dixon, Zeppelin, JPJ, Gabriel, Genesis - but I missed link #2. Johnny Johnson and NRBQ hooked up, then you can get back to Paul McCartney. There's also Keith Richards in the equation. I think I'll let wait and see which direction this goes in. |

to clarify...
Each artist must have played with the bands above and below them on the list. In fact, they were all members of the bands for at least one album, with the exception of the link to Chuck Berry, who played with him as a tour musician.

I've got a quicker connection than the one you were going for I think:
Genesis Peter Gabriel Peter Hamill (has done vocals on several Gabriel albums) Nic Potter (plays bass on Hamill's albums as well as London Sessions by. . .) Chuck Berry |

Ah yes, but... Oh hell, you win!
Peters Gabriel and Hamill were never members of the same band, a I clarified in my above post. However, since no one seems interested in this question, I'll just give it to Bob Lentil and put the answer below:
Genesis Mike Rutherford Mike & The Mechanics Paul Carrack Squeeze Gilson Lavis Chuck Berry Gil Lavis was Squeeze's drummer for the majority of their albums. Before that, he worked as a touring drummer with Chuck Berry, according to AMG. Paul Carrack was a member of Squeeze for two albums, "East Side Story" and "Some Fantastic Place." After ESS, he went on to sing for M&TM. I just found it interesting that two bands that are miles apart on the style chart could be linked with only a few steps. Ask away, Bob, but I think I just proved the "six degress of Proggin' Bacon" has run its course, especially when there are so many technically correct answers!

It wasn't lack of interest in the question on my part, it was lack of knowledge. I could have easily gotten to Gilson Lavis, but I had no idea he had toured with Chuck. Good question!
I discovered I could link myself to almost anyone in the prog world pretty quickly. Larry Mitchell (who is on AM's playlist), played at my wedding. His bass player was James East, who's brother Nathan East played on a few of Bryan Ferry's solo albums. From there, Roxy Music/Eddie Jobson can get you anywhere you'd want to go. Now that would have been an unfair question! |
