The Mars Volta

The new punk/prog band is about to release their new album, "Frances the Mute". Could you upload their first album "De-Loused in the Comatorium" (preferably with the extra bonus track "Ambuletz"), their EP "Tremulant", and "Frances the Mute" when it comes out? Also, maybe some of their famous jammy live material, perhaps?

Thanks.

I've never heard of them myself, but we tend to shy away from 'punk/prog' here. Jim: have you ever heard of these guys?

Mars Volta, indeed.

Yo. Tommy played De-Loused in the Comatorium on Extended Play back in the day, and I played the song "Cicatriz ESP" on BrainRock once. Jim has indeed said he liked the music, but has a problem with Cedric's vocals (or is Cedric the guitarist?) Anyway, I'm eventually donating it, so the word of the day is "maybe" and "patience." Ok that's two words.

PS, not intending to speak for Jim.

Jim is intrigued by the Mars Volta, and may just grow to like that voice someday. So the definitive answer is.....maybe.

When I first listened to The Mars Volta, it was kinda like Yes gone wrong. It's an interesting listen, but I'm not a big fan. I wouldn't be surprised if it came up, a lot of people would likely enjoy it.

welcome Josh. Moncton, hah? Even though I live in sunny San Diego, I've been to Moncton, in January no less. It was for work - maybe you still have a company called Phase Atlantic there?

Volta for the taking

Hey y'all,

If you want, I can rip Tremulant, Deloused, and Francis and upload. It may be later in the month (as I'm still awaiting my stuff to arrive in FL). Then, you can listen and decide, a novel concept indeed!

Now that's the idea!

I've heard good things about them from people who don't usually like punk prog. I've never heard them myself, but even if I don't like them it would good to have here if other people do.

It took me a while to get into them, because the music is so varried and moves so damn quick, but they really pack in a lot of great influences. Just in "Deloused in the Comatorium", there's obvious allusions to Crimson, M. Davis, and Mahavishnu Orchestra [along with plenty of things I can't think of just now]. The only real kicker is that for me, the whole album is the esperience, since it really flows together instead of being a collection of pieces.

I'll let y'all know when I can get some rips together. Hopefully my FTP login still works. If someone has the time, can y'all get me an updated login?

Tommy

Frances the Mute

Just got it yesterday and have listened to it maybe 3 times. It takes a while to get used to their often frantic sound but it is definitely interesting. Not too sure that I like the binder between songs and, like Jim, I sometimes have trouble with the vocalist's vocal effects (I don't mind when he is singing but sometimes he changes his voice that ends up sounding strange). I'll advise you if it grows on me to the point that I would recommend it.

(I am back. My password got deleted for some reason and I haven't taken the time to reset it. Sorry about the missed birthday greetings, new babies, and lack of general comments.)

Shoot nanny! I can do that right now. I dunno why I didn't think of it first. Darn you Tommy! But seriously, I've got them right here, so no need to wait on Tommy, if you want me to upload them. I'll do that right now.

PS, Tommy, I don't have Tremulant, so when your stuff shows up, go ahead with that one.

Awesome, spaz! Go ahead. I'll upload Tremulant when I get the opportunity.

I didn't know rabbits could high-5.

Yo Jim, De-Loused in the Comatorium and Fraces the Mute are in your recieving folder. De-Loused has a few short tracks that work as intros to songs and such that I absorbed into the longer track. For example a 0:45 second and a 8:00+ minutes song is a nine minute song. It's all there.

Tommy, is Tremulant pretty good?

PS, Jim, check out "L'Via L'Viaquez" first - Killer.
