Sigur Rós show - Go See!
Well, I know that Sigur Rós is a divisive group, but last night in Birmingham was one of the most enthralling shows I've seen in terms of sight and sound, if not in rambunctious energy. My best friend John Paul (from AM band Bellador) went too. We were mesmerized. Seeing Sigur Rós with 6,000 others was sonic astonishment. Huge sound, brilliant light and stage show, and such creative music mixed for a stellar concert.
As for the setlist, there were three from Takk..., two from ( ), one from Með Suð Í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust, one from Valtari, and six from the new one, Kveikur. We were very surprised that nothing was played from Ágætis byrjun, the one that put them on the map. Setlist: Yfirborð Brennisteinn Vaka Glósóli Hrafntinna Stormur Sæglópur Varúð Hoppípolla/Með Blóðnasir Rafstraumur Kveikur Festival Popplagið At first you think, "Only 13 songs?" and then you remember it's a post/prog band. Half the songs were 8 minutes or longer. Popplagið was just a hair over 19 minutes long, and killed as a closer. Hoppípolla seemed to be the crowd favorite. My personal favorite, besides Popplagið, of course, was Kveikur. Good heavens, that was brutal (that's a good thing, old timers. ) The sound from these camera phones just doesn't get the feel and the volume and the power, of course, but you get the point. Here's a review and here's a tweet roll from al.com, an Alabama blog. If you at all can go see this band, do it.
